About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our Optum AI Team. In this role, you will lead the development and maintenance of advanced AI/ML models focused on disease progression and patient engagement programs. Your work will directly influence healthcare delivery by creating innovative solutions that enhance patient outcomes and streamline healthcare processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business partners and technical architects, to design scalable, high-quality models aligned with enterprise standards. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely within the U.S., with some in-office requirements for candidates in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C.
Qualifications
- MS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or related roles
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL
- Experience with cloud-based platforms including Databricks and Azure AI Services
- Strong understanding of statistical techniques and data analysis
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on model development and engineering
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field
- 10+ years of extensive data science experience
- Deep knowledge of advanced machine learning techniques such as clustering, decision trees, neural networks, graph ML, OCR, and sentiment analysis
- Experience with developing and deploying scalable AI/ML solutions in healthcare
- Proven ability to collaborate with academic and industry experts, including publishing research or filing patents
Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptualization, design, development, and maintenance of AI/ML models for disease progression and patient engagement initiatives
- Engage with business partners to understand project requirements and develop tailored solutions
- Review and critique AI/ML model ideas, engineering designs, and suggest innovative approaches
- Develop and refine the Data Science and Engineering roadmap aligned with organizational goals
- Ensure high standards of quality, timeliness, and scalability in project execution
- Collaborate with global teams to ensure seamless project delivery across different locations
- Recommend technical patterns and solutions consistent with architectural standards and best practices
- Work closely with Product and Capability Architects to align technical solutions with enterprise architecture
- Manage technical debt and promote continuous improvement in processes and solutions
