About The Role
We are seeking an exceptional UI/UX Designer to join our dynamic, remote team for a significant project within the government sector. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in human-centered design, user research, and interface development to craft applications that are accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with federal standards. This role involves collaborating closely with product teams to define requirements, conducting usability testing, and translating complex processes into intuitive designs. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that our digital solutions are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, by adhering to VA Digital Service guidelines and US Web Design System standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that serve the public and improve user experiences at a national level.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field
- Proven experience in UI/UX design with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise
- Experience with Human-Centered Design (HCD) and conducting user research
- Ability to synthesize research insights into actionable design improvements
- Strong documentation skills, including capturing research methodologies and findings
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Axure
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508) and best practices
- Understanding of Design Systems, design tokens, and their application
- Experience working within Agile development environments
- Ability to adapt to iterative feedback and evolving project requirements
- Familiarity with VA/DHA/HHS practices is a plus
- Reside within the continental United States
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product teams to define project requirements, goals, and user needs
- Conduct usability testing and user research through interviews, surveys, and testing sessions
- Design accessible, intuitive, and user-centric applications in compliance with VA and USWDS standards
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to visualize design concepts and solutions
- Translate complex workflows and data into simple, engaging interfaces
- Provide guidance on UX best practices and ensure designs align with human-centered principles
- Document all design activities, research insights, and usability enhancements
- Participate in iterative design processes, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and users
- Support project teams in maintaining consistency and adherence to accessibility standards
- Assist with additional tasks as needed to ensure project success and delivery
