About The Role
The Staff Software Engineer at Alkami will play a pivotal role in leading the development of scalable, high-quality software systems. This position involves participating in the entire software development lifecycle, from initial design to deployment and maintenance. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep technical expertise, ownership of multiple product features, and a strategic approach to achieving product goals. They will be responsible for code reviews, troubleshooting, and ensuring system reliability, often acting as a key point of escalation for on-call incidents. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior engineers, and championing best practices such as API-first development. The ideal candidate will be proactive, self-sufficient, and committed to continuous improvement, contributing to Alkami's mission of delivering innovative digital banking solutions.
Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of related experience in software development or a related field; or 6 years with an advanced degree
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
• Strong programming skills in object-oriented languages such as Java or C#
• Proficiency with modern JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular, along with HTML and CSS
• Experience developing and deploying applications in Cloud Native Infrastructure environments
• Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, and deployment
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, data structures, caching strategies, and performance optimization
• Knowledge of REST API design, security, scalability, and best practices
• Experience with Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, and cloud platforms such as AWS
• Ability to participate in on-call rotations and troubleshoot production issues effectively
• Excellent communication, analytical, and time management skills
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within agile teams and independently manage tasks

Responsibilities

• Lead code and design reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards
• Participate in the full application lifecycle, focusing on coding, debugging, and deployment
• Develop clean, functional, and scalable web applications using modern frameworks and technologies
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and debugging to resolve system issues
• Conduct UI tests to enhance application performance and user experience
• Collaborate with developers, designers, and system administrators to identify and implement new features
• Manage and improve legacy applications by integrating cutting-edge technologies
• Gather and analyze technical and design requirements to inform development efforts
• Set up and maintain environment configurations, monitor system health, and optimize performance
• Build reusable code libraries and components for future use
• Provide training, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineers and internal teams
• Lead initiatives to enhance development tools, test coverage, and code quality
• Respond promptly to on-call incidents, troubleshooting and resolving critical issues to minimize downtime
• Maintain proactive communication with customers and vendors to ensure positive relationships
• Establish and uphold development standards within the engineering team
• Champion an API-first approach, ensuring seamless integration, scalability, and extensibility across projects
