Role summary

An established engineering organization developing advanced avionics and embedded technology solutions for aerospace applications is seeking an FPGA Engineer. This role involves the full development lifecycle of complex FPGA-based hardware systems in highly regulated environments. Responsibilities include RTL design using Verilog/VHDL, verification, synthesis, timing analysis, hardware validation, integration, board bring-up, and system-level troubleshooting. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain technical documentation. Required qualifications include a relevant degree or equivalent experience, 2+ years of FPGA/ASIC development, strong Verilog/VHDL skills, and experience with Xilinx tools, simulation tools, and digital interfaces.

FPGA Engineer – Avionics Systems

We are partnering with an established engineering organization developing advanced avionics and embedded technology solutions for aerospace applications. The team is seeking an FPGA Engineer to support the design and development of high-performance hardware systems used in highly regulated environments.

This FPGA Engineer position offers the opportunity to work on complex products throughout the full development lifecycle while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement FPGA-based solutions for avionics and embedded hardware systems
  • Develop RTL using Verilog and/or VHDL
  • Perform FPGA verification activities including simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, and hardware validation
  • Support hardware integration, board bring-up activities, and system-level troubleshooting
  • Participate in development efforts from requirements definition through testing and production release
  • Work closely with Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware Design, and Manufacturing teams
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, traceability artifacts, and engineering deliverables required within regulated development environments
  • Support engineering activities aligned with industry quality and certification processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of FPGA and/or ASIC development experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with Verilog and/or VHDL
  • Strong understanding of FPGA development processes including:
  • RTL design
  • Verification methodologies
  • Logic synthesis
  • Place and route
  • Timing closure
  • Hardware validation
  • Experience working with Xilinx FPGA technologies and development tools such as Vivado
  • Experience with simulation tools including ModelSim, Questa, or comparable environments
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and board-level debugging skills
  • Familiarity with digital interfaces such as:
  • SPI
  • I2C
  • JTAG
  • Ethernet
  • PCIe
  • Video interfaces

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting avionics or other safety-critical systems
  • Exposure to industry standards and regulatory development processes such as DO-254 or similar structured development methodologies
  • Experience with requirements-based development, verification processes, and configuration management practices
  • Experience within aerospace, defense, transportation, medical device, or other highly regulated industries
