Role summary

This 12+ month contract role for a Senior Network Security Engineer in Phoenix, AZ, focuses on integrating firewall infrastructure with a Zero Trust micro-segmentation platform. The engineer will optimize firewall rules, analyze security logs, and ensure seamless integration between network security technologies and segmentation solutions. Key responsibilities include contributing to Zero Trust implementation, acting as a technical bridge between firewalls and segmentation platforms, and analyzing firewall data for optimization and security control enhancement. The role requires 5+ years of experience with enterprise firewalls (Palo Alto preferred), proficiency in SQL for data analysis, and familiarity with cloud networking security in AWS or Azure. Experience with version control systems is also required.

The Opportunity: We are seeking a Network Security Engineer to support the integration of firewall infrastructure with a modern Zero Trust micro-segmentation platform. This role focuses on optimizing firewall rule sets, analyzing security logs, and ensuring seamless integration between network security technologies and micro-segmentation solutions.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with enterprise firewall platforms (Palo Alto strongly preferred) and a deep understanding of firewall architecture, rule management, and network security data analysis. This position will work closely with security, infrastructure, and engineering teams to strengthen overall network security posture and support the implementation of advanced segmentation strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the implementation of Zero Trust micro-segmentation solutions and integrate them with existing firewall technologies
  • Serve as a technical bridge between firewall infrastructure and segmentation platforms to ensure secure and efficient policy enforcement
  • Analyze firewall rule sets and log data to identify optimization opportunities and strengthen security controls
  • Provide subject matter expertise on firewall architecture, policy design, and network security best practices
  • Utilize SQL and data analysis techniques to interpret security data and support data-driven decision making
  • Collaborate with security and engineering teams to support network security improvements and system integrations
  • Assist with infrastructure automation and provisioning efforts using modern infrastructure tooling
  • Support ongoing enhancements to enterprise network security models across hybrid and cloud environments

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Network Security Engineer or Network Security Architect
  • Strong experience with enterprise firewall technologies, preferably Palo Alto or Cisco platforms
  • Deep understanding of firewall rule structures, policy management, and log analysis
  • Experience supporting integration of firewall infrastructure with advanced security platforms
  • Proficiency in SQL for interacting with and analyzing security-related datasets
  • Familiarity with cloud networking and security models in environments such as AWS or Azure
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in complex network environments
  • Experience working with version control platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or SVN

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing micro-segmentation or Zero Trust security architectures (Illumio experience is a plus)
  • Certifications related to Palo Alto Networks or Cisco networking technologies
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
  • Familiarity with data analytics or data mining techniques applied to security operations
  • Advanced understanding of cloud network security architectures
