OVERVIEW:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks an experienced, entrepreneurial, AI-native technical product manager to join its Generative AI Technology team. This team helps drive a growing portfolio of greenfield and evolving internal products that enable business units across the firm to plan and execute transformative generative AI initiatives. This hands-on, high-autonomy role offers the chance to work directly with developers and stakeholders to identify high-value opportunities, prototype practical AI-enabled solutions, and shape how emerging AI capabilities are applied to real business needs.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Identify how AI can reshape the way teams operate to help lead efforts to improve the AI developer experience.
  • Partner with developers, technical teams, and internal business stakeholders across the firm to scope and prioritize high-impact product opportunities.
  • Shape greenfield product concepts through early implementation in a fast-moving environment where priorities and technical possibilities evolve quickly.
  • Translate ambiguous business needs and emerging technical capabilities into product plans, prototypes, and lightweight specifications.
  • Drive product discovery, alignment, and decision-making across applied AI, developer experience, and related internal tooling efforts.
  • Experiment with modern AI tools to prototype workflows, internal products, and proof-of-concept solutions.
  • Work across multiple product spaces to improve internal workflows, user experiences, and technical productivity.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher and an impressive record of academic and professional achievement.
  • At least seven years of relevant product management experience, ideally in applied AI, developer tools, internal platforms, workflow products, or other technical product environments.
  • Demonstrated success building technical products alongside development teams; a background in developer experience, internal tools, platform-like products, or applied AI environments is preferred.
  • Solid product judgment and the ability to operate independently in ambiguous, fast-changing, and greenfield settings; startup or zero-to-one experience is a plus.
  • Comfort working in technical domains and credibility with developers; an engineering background is preferred, though direct software engineering experience is not required.
  • Fluency with modern AI tools and a clear interest in applied AI; proficiency with tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar environments is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently.
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $230,000 to $300,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
