Role summary

This is a contract full-time position for an Electrical Test Engineer in Headland, AL, with an estimated duration of 12 months. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing protection and control systems used in power substations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting relays and associated devices, performing calibrations, creating documentation, and assisting project leads. The ideal candidate will have a BS in Engineering (Electrical preferred), 0-3 years of experience, a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, computer skills, and familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC systems, and electrical schematics.

Job Description / Desired Qualifications:

  • 0 - 3 years of related experience. Engineers are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing protection and control systems.
  • These systems are used to monitor protection systems in power substations.
  • Engineers must have a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles as well as computer skills.
  • They use this knowledge to install, repair, and maintain protection and control systems that may include microprocessor relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, pumps, motors, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying and associated devices Perform calibration of various types of protection and control relays and devices
  • Assist in creating and maintaining protection and control documentation
  • Assist assigned project lead with field assignments
  • Install, program, and maintain protection and control relays and devices
  • Participate in process hazard analyses

Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and practices

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4 year BS Engineering Degree (Electrical Preferred)
  • 0-3 years’ experience in Engineering or similar role
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs
  • Experience with AC and DC systems
  • Successful candidate must live within a reasonable commute to the assigned office location
