Role summary

A Power Platform Engineer is needed for a contract role in Toronto, requiring 3-5 years of experience in developing solutions using Power Apps, Microsoft Dataverse, Power Automate, and Power BI. The role involves designing and implementing Power Platform solutions to improve IT Risk processes, including data modeling, workflow automation, and dashboard creation. Key responsibilities include applying UI/UX best practices, contributing to integrations via REST APIs and PowerShell scripting, managing deployments, and maintaining documentation. Familiarity with Scrum and Jira is essential. Preferred qualifications include specific Power Platform certifications, cybersecurity knowledge, and experience with financial services or risk domains, API/AI integrations, governance, and Azure DevOps.

Location: Toronto, ON (2 Days Onsite)

Required

  • 3–5 years professional experience delivering with:
  • Power Apps (Canvas & Model‑Driven)
  • Microsoft Dataverse including security/access model
  • Power Automate (approval workflows, connectors, error handling)
  • Power BI (data modeling basics, DAX fundamentals, visualization best practices)
  • Demonstrated UI/UX skills (wireframes, prototypes, accessibility‑minded design, usability testing).
  • Ability to author clear SOPs, process documentation, solution design artifacts, and flow charts.
  • Familiarity with Scrum and Jira for work tracking and delivery.
  • Exposure to REST APIs and/or Windows PowerShell scripting.
  • Strong communication, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving skills with a quality‑first mindset.

Preferred

  • PL‑200 (Power Platform Functional Consultant) and PL‑400 (Power Platform Developer).
  • Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) - ISC²
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Exposure to investment/financial services or risk and controls domains.
  • Experience with API integrations and AI integrations (e.g., Copilot capabilities in Power Platform).
  • Knowledge of governance, ALM, environment strategy, DLP policies, and secure solution design.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps/Git, solution packaging, and deployment pipelines.
  • Accessibility awareness and performance tuning for Power Apps/Power BI.

Key Responsibilities

Power Platform Delivery

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power Apps (Canvas & Model‑Driven) and Power Automate workflows that improve IT Risk processes and evidence capture.
  • Implement robust Dataverse data models (tables, relationships) and the Dataverse security/access model (security roles, row‑level security, field security profiles).
  • Build approval workflows and audit‑ready trails for an evidence management system; ensure seamless connectivity across Microsoft 365 services.
  • Create Power BI dashboards and reports (data modeling, DAX fundamentals, visuals) to deliver actionable insights and support data‑driven decisions.
  • Plan for phase‑2 integrations (e.g., REST APIs) to enable automated evidence collection and data synchronization with internal/external systems.

Engineering & Integration

  • Apply UI/UX best practices to produce intuitive, accessible, and performant user experiences (wireframes, prototypes, usability feedback loops).
  • Contribute to integrations using REST APIs and support Windows PowerShell scripting for automation and DevOps tasks.
  • Conduct comprehensive unit/system testing of apps and flows; ensure quality, reliability, and performance.

Operations, Governance & Compliance

  • Manage deployments and environments in line with organizational standards, governance, and compliance expectations (risk and controls context).
  • Maintain accurate documentation: SOPs, process maps/flowcharts, solution design docs, user guides, and runbooks.
  • Ensure procedures are up‑to‑date and lead the annual procedure review exercise.

Collaboration & Agile Ways of Working

  • Partner with IT Risk, business stakeholders, and cross‑functional teams to capture requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Work in Scrum with Jira (user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, reviews/demos, and retros).
  • Provide training, enablement, and support to increase adoption and effective use of solutions.
  • Stay current with Power Platform features; recommend optimizations and contribute to the team’s functional/technical capability development.
