The Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing test procedures and solutions to evaluate product performance and reliability. This role supports cross-functional engineering teams in the validation of new designs and continuous improvement efforts by designing test systems, analyzing results, and ensuring equipment and methods meet internal and customer requirements.
II. Essential Job Functions
Primary Job Functions (70%) – Test Departmental Functions
- Design and develop test equipment and fixtures using CAD (preferably Autodesk Inventor) to improve test capability and capacity.
- Develop and implement standardized test procedures and engineering verification and validation methods.
- Perform detailed analysis of test data to support product development and issue resolution.
- Develop and execute product reliability plans, maintain and manage reliability test database, and communicate results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex testing challenges and improve product quality.
- Utilize test software for data acquisition, analysis, and efficiency improvement.
- Evaluate test requirements and recommend instrumentation and processes to validate product designs and modifications.
Secondary Job Functions (20%) – Hierarchical Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to Test Technicians and help resolve issues with test procedures or equipment.
- Troubleshoot and improve test systems, instrumentation, and lab workflows.
- Present findings and collaborate with internal stakeholders and customers to communicate test status and results.
- Assist with budgeting for new test equipment and recommend capital investments.

III. Essential Job Requirements
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Agricultural Sciences Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or a related field is required.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
● Frequent use of computers and work in office, laboratory, and field environments, including occasional outdoor conditions
● Standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs. may be required.
● Occasional lifting of greater than 30 lbs. may occur with team or mechanical assistance to ensure safe handling.
● Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain safety standards
● Exposure to noise, machinery, and temperature variations in testing environments.
Experience and Minimum Qualifications Needed
● Minimum two years of experience in an engineering field is preferred.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required; experience with 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor) is preferred.
● Test data analysis experience and familiarity with software such as GlyphWorks and InField is preferred.
● Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or electrical systems is preferred
● Experience with instrumentation including DAQs, strain gauges, thermocouples, load and torque transducers, pressure sensors, and accelerometers.
● PLC, LabView programming, and 3D printing skills are a plus.
● Strong communication, technical writing, and organizational skills are required.
● Ability to work proactively, both independently and within teams.
