Role summary

UniversalGiving® is seeking a pro bono Java Software Engineer with extensive experience in Claude AI coding, Java software design, and development. This role involves making quick fixes, improving existing server-side components, and building new features for the organization's website. The ideal candidate will collaborate with front-end developers and senior management to deliver quality code, develop server-side Java technologies, and increase operational efficiency. This is a part-time, flexible remote position requiring a minimum 6-month commitment, contributing 5-20 hours per month to a global Tech for Good nonprofit.

Pro Bono: This position is tailored for a professional who wants to give back by contributing engineering expertise. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in Claude AI coding, Java software design, and development. He/she will be responsible for quick fixes, improving existing server-side components, or building new features for ’s website. Please do not apply unless you use Claude AI to help with coding. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with front-end developers/senior management to deliver quality code
  • Develop server-side Java technologies for existing & new application components
  • Scoping, developing, and implementing new user features and new web components
  • Increase operational efficiency & system visibility, developing tracking analysis features
  • Provide updates on security
  • Provide recommendations on coding standards and guidelines
  • Communicate with the Lead Engineer on your implementation performance

Qualifications

  • BS/MS Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent)
  • Claude Ai coding experience
  • 4+ years of application development experience using JAVA, MySQL, React
  • Experience with client-side web technologies such as JavaScript, CSS
  • Familiarity with source controls such as SVN and CVS
  • Knowledge of design patterns and object-oriented modeling (e.g., UML)
  • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Strong debugging skills and principles
  • Familiarity with GitHub for CI/CD and bug tracking systems such as Jira

Duration and Location

  • The position is 5-20 hours per month.
