Role summary

The Pharmacy Program Manager will oversee clinical management and process improvement programs to ensure safe and cost-effective medication use across neonatal to adult patient populations. This role requires adherence to Joint Commission, OSHA, Medicare/Medicaid, and Texas State Board of Pharmacy standards. Responsibilities include disseminating clinical information, supporting key committees (P&T, DUE), developing formularies and pathways, and managing pharmacy informatics. The manager will develop reports to monitor medication usage, identify cost-saving trends, and address reimbursement issues. Direct oversight of clinical specialists, ICU pharmacists, and Informatics pharmacists is also included. A Pharm. D. degree, post-graduate residency/fellowship or Master's, and 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience are required, along with Texas Pharmacy licensure.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight and leadership of clinical management and process improvement programs to promote safe and cost effective use of medications. Service provided for neonatal through adult patients in the hospital subject to Joint Commission, OSHA, Medicare/Medicaid standards and Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. Disseminates clinical information to Medical and Pharmacy Staff and allied health personnel. Support of Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) and Drug Utilization Evaluation Committees and subcommittees of P&T. Oversight of formulary utilization programs and critical pathway/order set development. Significant interaction with Medical and clinical pharmacy and resident staff and pharmacy information systems staff. Provision of clinical information, including formulary and pathway/guideline through the web and online dissemination to health care professionals. Develops reports to monitor usage and identify trends in ordering high cost medications and guides plans to control costs and usage in accordance with therapeutic and cost effective principles. Conducts surveillance and makes recommendations for cost effective therapeutic guidelines. Addresses and helps resolve medication reimbursement issues. Oversight of clinical specialists, ICU decentralized pharmacists and Informatics pharmacist.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Licensure to practice Pharmacy in the State of Texas is required. A Pharm. D. Degree, post-graduate residency, fellowship, or Master’s Degree is required. Five years additional experience in a clinically oriented hospital pharmacy is required. Additionally, certification via BCPS (Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties) is preferred. Expertise in reimbursement is preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
