The UF Innovation Academy (IA) is seeking a student assistant to help manage and enhance its website. Responsibilities include introducing new features, analyzing user needs, creating and editing web pages within WordPress Multisite, developing forms, and ensuring website security. The role also involves collaborating on analytics reports using Google Looker Studio, providing support for IA events, and cross-training team members. A basic understanding of website security and preventative measures is required. This is an onsite, part-time position requiring 10-15 hours per week, with a commitment of at least two to three consecutive semesters.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The UF Innovation Academy (IA) is looking for an interested graduate or undergraduate student who would like to assist in oversight of the IA web site.

General responsibilities and skills a candidate must have include but are not limited to:

  • Introduce and add innovative features and functionality to the department website.
  • Have a strong understanding of User Interface, Cross Browser compatibility, general web functions and standards.
  • The position requires constant communications with colleagues.
  • Expertise in planning and delivering software platforms used across multiple products and organizational units.
  • Deep expertise and hands on experience in Web Applications, and writing and editing in programming languages such JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements and opportunities.
  • Create new pages and edit existing pages; edit and customize the site’s theme files; add new menus, groups, and posts within WordPress Multisite, IA’s current website platform
  • Develop forms and registration systems for IA events using Word Press, Qualtrics, etc.
  • Offer support to the IA team for major events, some of which may take place after 5pm. These include but are not limited to: Launch, Summit, or Catalyst.
  • Keep code and page bases clean, consistent, and standard.
  • Participate in staff interviews.
  • Invest time in cross training other members of the IA team on web content management.
  • Basic knowledge of website, server, and application security.
  • Create preventative measures to mitigate server failure, hacking attempts, and site crashes.
  • Collaborate with MarCom team to compile data for IA website, IA YouTube channel, IA social media channels, and IA newsletter into a monthly MarCom Analytics report using Google’s Looker Studio
  • Provide front desk and phone coverage as needed to assist the Administrative Assistant and IA Ambassadors.

EXPECTED SALARY:

$14.00 per hour; commensurate with skills and experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is open to all non-IA Minor students who are eligible to work on campus, be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS), and maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
  • Registered students are employed on a part-time basis
  • Work schedule that allows for an office presence 4 - 5 days a week for 10 - 15 hours per week between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Able to commit at least two-three consecutive semesters to the position
  • Experience with WordPress
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Experience in web management and administration
  • Ability to read, write and communicate professionally
  • Ability to work flexibly and efficiently in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the University of Florida

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer Science background
  • Ability, creativity, and initiative to suggest and develop new ways in which web technologies could improve the performance and capabilities of the Innovation Academy
  • Ability to be patient with the needs of a growing office and student needs
  • Ability to offer strong customer service to students, families, and prospective students who come into the office or call the office
  • Takes initiative, learns proactively, and adapts quickly to new situations
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques
