UPMC is hiring a full-time Clinical Data Analyst - Intermediate to join their Department of Surgery team! The UPMC Department of Surgery is a large, academically driven department dedicated to excellence in patient care, surgical education, and innovative research across a wide range of surgical specialties. The department supports high volume clinical operations while advancing teaching and research in close collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh, fostering a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

This position supports the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Verification Program at UPMC Presby and provides essential analytic support for clinical research across the Dept of Surgery. The role manages STAT MedEvac patient data from Presbyterian and Mercy and produces all ACS required EGS quality metrics, which are necessary to maintain compliance with the American College of Surgeons’ Verification Program and to guide ongoing quality improvement and research initiatives. This position also assists with initiatives across Clinical Analytics.

This is a hybrid position, and we are looking for someone located within 1-hour of Pittsburgh or is willing to relocate to the area. Hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, daylight hours, with no evenings, weekends, or holidays!

Purpose:
The Clinical Data Analyst - Intermediate designs, analyzes and presents analytical solutions to multidisciplinary teams including but not limited to physicians, administrators and organizational leaders, summarizing population characteristics and outcomes to support data-based decision making throughout the organization to improve elements such as patient care, clinical outcomes and operational throughput.
Responsibilities:

  • Perform clinical analyses in a team oriented atmosphere and review the analytical outcomes to both clinical and non-clinical audiences
  • Identify trends in outcomes, utilization, medical quality and other areas.
  • Stay abreast on new solutions relevant to the department through various webinars and intermittent conferences requiring brief travel
  • Maintain high level of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Identify current /future data challenges, develop meaningful recommendations and provide timely updates on issues encountered.
  • Meet deadlines and turnaround times set by department (these deadlines and turnaround times will, at times, require the employee to work until the project is completed, meaning extended daily work hours, extended work weeks, or both).
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and ensures data accuracy.
  • Effectively prioritize and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Master new computer software programs and upgrades, as applicable.
  • Interact with various clinical and non-clinical teams throughout each project to ensure data definitions and assumptions are accurate
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with internal UPMC departments, and external contacts as appropriate
  • Assist in organizing and leading discussions with multi-disciplinary teams, including but not limited to: senior management, department/division chiefs, chairs, physicians, etc.
  • Exhibit advanced problem solving using various information sources.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, Healthcare Management or related field and 2 years' experience or High school + 7 years of experience. MS Office proficiency required

SQL/Business Intelligence knowledge preferred. Healthcare experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Must work well independently and within a team\*Epic (UPMC?s Electronic Medical Record) training is mandatory within the first year of employment, requiring one week of travel to Madison, Wisconsin
