
Staff Software Engineer
Role summary
Upshop is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to develop specialized SaaS application software for the Grocery and C-Store markets. This role involves collaborating with clients and internal teams to understand user needs, design, and develop software solutions. Responsibilities include coding, modifying existing software, designing databases, and ensuring usability through user feedback. The engineer will work within an agile development environment, utilizing tools like JIRA and GitLab, and leveraging technologies such as React, JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, PHP, Azure services, and various databases. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required, along with strong OOAD and API development skills.

Overview of the role:
The Software Engineer will develop specialized SaaS application software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with clients and/or internal teams to understand user needs; drafts initial proposal and design of software to meet these needs.
- Assesses feasibility of design and project parameters within time and cost constraints.
- Analyzes user needs and designs software for client use.
- Develops code and designs software applications based on user specifications.
- Modifies existing software to correct errors or improve performance.
- Gathers and evaluates user feedback and then modifies software for better usability.
- Design databases for specific application areas.
- Collaborates with product, QA, and customer success teams to design systems to support required applications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with:
- React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS/Bootstrap, C#, PHP, Laravel Framework.
- Azure Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, MS SQL, and ODBC
- Experience with source control, pull requests, and code reviews using GitHub and Azure DevOps.
- Experience working in agile development environments using tools such as JIRA and GitLab.
- Experience with Azure app services/functions.
- Familiarity with Entity Framework.
- Experience with API Development (REST/CRUD).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent OOAD skillset.
- Proven experience working in a fast-paced, agile environment.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- $120,000 - 160,000 CAD
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
