System Test Engineer - Government
Role summary
Viasat is seeking a Systems Test Engineer to support new and existing highly integrated and complex RF stimulation systems. This role involves integrating and testing sophisticated RF communication systems, from small-scale to large, complex, high-density multi-rack systems. You will collaborate with engineering fields and customers, providing on-site support for deployed systems, including troubleshooting and issue resolution. Responsibilities include planning and implementing test tasks, writing test plans and cases, performing site installations, and providing demonstrations and training. The position requires 3+ years of System Engineering or system integration and test experience, familiarity with RF communication systems and test equipment, Linux/Unix experience, and scripting language knowledge. A Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field and US Citizenship are required, with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

In this role you will help integrate and test sophisticated RF communication systems, from small-scale low-density solutions to large, complex, high density multi-rack systems. You will interface and collaborate with other engineering fields as new capabilities are developed. In addition, you will be customer facing to provide on-site support for delivered systems to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve field issues.
The day-to-day
You will plan and implement test tasks that include interpreting test requirements, writing test plans and test cases, performing site installations, and providing demonstrations and training of various RF stimulation systems. You will provide on-site customer support for deployed systems to include integration, troubleshooting and debug of new and existing capabilities. You will collaborate with sophisticated customers and other support staff, representing Viasat as an experienced professional.
What You'll Need
- 3+ years of System Engineering or system integration and test experience
- SATCOM or Wireless/RF Communication Systems experience
- Familiarity with RF test equipment (ex: spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.)
- Linux/Unix experience
- Knowledge and experience with a programming or scripting language (i.e. Javascript , Python, bash, or other)
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline
- US Citizenship
- Must be able to obtain a United States Secret Clearance
- Must be able to work out of our office in Carlsbad, CA
- Ability to travel up to 50%
What Will Help You On The Job
- Experience with complex system and/or subsystem integration
- RF, wireless systems, and RF test equipment expertise
- Linux expertise
- Python, Javascript, bash expertise , C experience
- Test automation development experience
- Familiarity with requirements traceability tools (e.g., Jama, DOORS, etc.)
- Experience in a customer-facing role for highly complex products
- Active secret clearance is preferred
Salary range
$115,000.00 - $182,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $143,000.00- $214,000.00/ annually
