Role summary

The Alternative Education Program Manager will provide district-wide leadership for alternative education services, focusing on students assigned through long-term suspension. This role involves supervising operations and personnel at New Beginnings Academy, managing the Diversion Program for student placements and transitions, and developing effective instructional and behavioral programming. Key responsibilities include implementing positive behavioral supports, ensuring curriculum alignment, managing classroom environments, developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), teaching social skills, and providing crisis intervention. The manager will also monitor and analyze student behavior and academic data, ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines, and collaborate with stakeholders and external agencies. This position requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of experience with middle school-aged students, along with experience in Tier II/III behavioral support.

Summary:

Provides district-wide leadership and oversight of alternative education services for students assigned through the long-term suspension process, including supervision of New Beginnings Academy operations and personnel. Manages the district Diversion Program by coordinating student placements, communication, and transitions between home schools and the alternative setting. Develops and supports implementation of effective instructional and behavioral programming (e.g., positive behavioral supports, curriculum alignment, classroom management, BIPs, social skills, and crisis intervention), monitors and analyzes student behavior/academic data, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and district requirements while collaborating with stakeholders and outside agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises the district program serving students who are long term suspended
  • Supervises New Beginnings Academy personnel.
  • Manages the Diversion Program for district-wide students attending the program
  • Manages all arrangements and communication for students attending the Diversion Program from their home school.
  • Determines and provides development of programming and training to include:
  • Positive behavioral supports
  • Effective district aligned curriculum/instruction
  • Classroom management and organization
  • Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Social Skills Instruction
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Hiring and maintaining highly qualified staff
  • Evaluating certified and classified staff
  • Consultation and collaboration with all stakeholders to include outside agencies, school site staff and district personnel.
  • Gathers and tracks behavior/academic data in accordance with federal, state, district, school site, and individual needs.
  • Analyzes behavior/academic data to identify strengths and weaknesses and articulate findings to stakeholders
  • Engages in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student and academic behavior support for all students.
  • Ensures all documents are in compliance with federal, state and district guidelines.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with Middle School Aged students
  • Experience with Tier II/III behavioral support
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Master’s degree in Education;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Multiple years of experience in a variety of school settings;
