Role summary

Watch Gang is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to modernize their Shopify storefront, transitioning from Liquid to a headless architecture. This high-impact role, reporting to the CMO, sits at the intersection of engineering, marketing, and revenue. You will own the storefront development, drive conversion rate optimization and site performance improvements, and translate designs into pixel-perfect experiences. The role involves technical leadership, establishing best practices, and collaborating with internal teams and external agencies. Success will be measured by improved conversion rates, faster load times, a high-performing mobile experience, and a modernized codebase ready for headless scaling. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of frontend experience, expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, modern CSS, and deep Shopify knowledge (Liquid, Hydrogen, Storefront API), with a proven track record in performance optimization and CRO.

The Role

We’re hiring a
Senior Frontend Engineer

to own and evolve our Shopify storefront as we transition from a Liquid-based architecture to a more modern headless stack.

You’ll help scale a business that’s already working—modernizing the codebase, improving site performance, and driving measurable gains in
conversion rate and user experience

What You’ll Be DoingOwn the Storefront

  • Lead development across our Shopify ecosystem (current Liquid architecture with planned transition to Hydrogen/headless)
  • Influence frontend architecture decisions to support scalability, speed, and maintainability
  • Partner with internal developers to evolve and modernize the codebase

Drive Conversion & Performance

  • Optimize Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse scores, and mobile performance
  • Identify and implement CRO opportunities across landing pages and key user flows
  • Continuously improve load times, responsiveness, and UX across devices

Build & Launch Fast

  • Translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, responsive experiences
  • Ship landing pages, experiments, and features in collaboration with marketing and content teams
  • Operate in a hybrid environment of sprint-based development and fast-moving ad hoc requests

Technical Leadership

  • Act as a thought partner to marketing and business stakeholders, clarifying trade-offs and identifying opportunities
  • Establish and maintain coding standards, documentation, and best practices
  • Ensure high-quality, maintainable, and scalable frontend code

Coordinate Development Efforts

  • Collaborate with internal developers and external agency partners when needed
  • Review code and ensure all outputs meet performance and quality standards

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of frontend development experience, ideally in e-commerce
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and modern CSS (SASS or equivalent)
  • Deep experience with Shopify (Liquid + familiarity with headless/Hydrogen + Storefront API)
  • Proven track record improving performance (Core Web Vitals, SEO, mobile-first optimization)
  • Strong eye for detail and ability to translate design into high-fidelity UI
  • Comfortable owning projects end-to-end in a fast-paced, marketing-driven environment
  • Experience collaborating with internal teams and external developers/agencies
  • Clear communicator who can work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
