This role involves building scalable machine learning systems, integrating ML models into simulation pipelines using C++ and Python, and leading the development of ultra-realistic simulations. You will also support Waymo's software development by building automated release workflows, improving code reliability, and developing tools for infrastructure monitoring. The position requires a Master's degree in a relevant field and three years of experience in C++, Python, ML frameworks, SQL, simulation modeling, and the full ML software development lifecycle. The role is hybrid, reporting to the Mountain View, CA office, with a salary range of $240,000 - $259,000 USD.

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

You will:

  • Design, develop, modify, and/or test software needed for various state-of-the-art self-driving vehicle applications and related products at Waymo. Duties include:
  • Build scalable machine learning systems that model complex real-world behaviors across agents, environments, and scenarios.
  • Work with both C++ and Python to integrate ML models into simulation pipelines.
  • Use required technologies to support, maintain, and upgrade code and participate in necessary redesign and reimplementation of existing components of Waymo software applications;
  • Support Waymo’s self-driving vehicle software development and releases by building automated release workflows and applications;
  • Lead the development of ultra-realistic simulations using advanced ML techniques, including foundation and generative models.
  • Provide key support and leadership to release managers and product engineers in improving Waymo code reliability, test infrastructure and production systems;
  • Build software tools and frameworks to support the maintenance and improvement of Waymo software infrastructure, monitoring and alerting systems;
