Role summary

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for its Chief Operating Office Technology (COO Tech) team, supporting the Regulatory and Policy Affairs portfolio. This leadership role focuses on driving transformation and innovation, implementing solutions for Regulatory Relations and Enterprise Policy Governance Platforms. The manager will leverage expertise in modern technology, strategic thinking, and agile development to partner with various systems and product owners, driving AI solution implementation. Key responsibilities include managing, coaching, and developing a team of engineers, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and non-functional requirements, engaging with architects on technical strategies, and acting as a technical representative in cross-team collaborations. The role also involves identifying and resolving technology roadblocks, managing the software development cycle and security standards, and serving as an escalation partner for scrum masters. Additionally, the manager will build engineering skills within the team, conduct peer reviews, interpret and ensure security, stability, and scalability, and manage technology and enterprise risk. Collaboration with product managers/owners to drive user satisfaction, influence roadmaps, and promote innovative solutions is crucial, alongside managing resource allocation, career development, and performance management for the team. The role requires direct interaction with third-party vendors and a commitment to agile and DevOps practices.

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join our Chief Operating Office Technology (COO Tech), supporting Regulatory and Policy Affairs portfolio. This is a key leadership role for a forward-thinking technologist who is passionate about driving transformation and innovation across the enterprise.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving solutions implementation for Regulatory Relations and Enterprise Policy Governance Platforms. You’ll bring deep expertise in modern technology practices, a strategic mindset, agile development, and the ability to navigate complex environments. You will partner with upstream and downstream systems, product owners and drive the implementation of AI solutions.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor engineer roles with low to moderate complexity and less experienced managers who are responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example, cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement culture
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with low to moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team
  • Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports to build the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the supported product areas/products

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of Leadership experience
  • 4+ years of Agile delivery experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Java or .NET development experience
  • 4+ years of database development experience
  • 4+ years of Manager experience managing engineers.
  • 1+ year of experience with Gen AI
  • 1+ year of experience with data migration from legacy systems to modern tech stack
  • 1+ year of experience working with risk and compliance data
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Highly self motivated, goal oriented, and outcome driven.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
