Western Kentucky University, Department of Application and Programming Services (APS), is seeking applicants for the position of Web Developer I focused on web application development and support. This is a regular appointment, which reports to the Web Development Group Manager of APS. Members of this team are responsible for web-related development, system integrations, programming, and maintenance of enterprise level administrative, academic, and mobile applications.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, support, and maintain the following (but not limited to):
- Custom web and mobile applications
- Enterprise systems such as Modern Campus CMS and Ellucian Banner
- Digital workflows
- System integrations
- Works closely with other application programmers, vendors, and other IT personnel to improve processes and ensure end user needs are met and align with WKU's technology goals.
- Develops and maintains documentation on web applications and procedures
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:
- Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
- Solid technical foundation in responsive web development, including JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, CSS, XML/XSL, and experience with one or more server side languages (PHP, PL/SQL, Java, Groovy).
- Experience with SQL for data retrieval, data manipulation, and the creation and modification of database objects.
- Familiarity with version control systems (GIT/SVN),
- Familiarity with managing applications across IIS, Linux, LAMP, and WIMP environments.
- Knowledge of security principles and their application in modern web development.
Job Requirements:
- A four-year college degree by start date
- Experience with one or more programming languages like PHP, Java or PL/SQL
- Minimum one (1) year of programming experience with server-side scripting languages that interact with databases
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $63,000 - $67,000
