Role summary

The role requires US citizenship and an active Top-Secret security clearance, with preferred experience in government or defense environments and specific technologies like Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco IOS, Splunk, and Stealthwatch.

Target Compensation: $120,000 – $150,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
WFR Technologies, a veteran-owned small business founded in 2001, is seeking a talented Network Security Engineer to join our dynamic team. You'll support a high-profile customer with an international mission, playing a hands-on role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing critical domestic and international data exchange networks and systems.
In this position, you'll operate in a fast-paced production environment, working across LAN/WAN/DMZ infrastructure, security application support, and broader IT operations to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of mission-critical networks.
Key Responsibilities
· Maintain and troubleshoot network security infrastructure supporting domestic and global data exchanges
· Configure, optimize, and support firewalls, routers, switches, SMTP gateways, and related security tools
· Monitor network activity and respond to security events using advanced tools
· Collaborate with cross-functional IT and security teams to enhance system resilience
· Implement and maintain IPSec tunnels and other secure connectivity solutions
· Ensure compliance with security standards
· Work with relevant teams to coordinate environment patching activity, including responses to Vulnerability Patch Requirements (VPR)
· Respond to security incidents
· Work with ISSO to address security concerns and obligations
Required Qualifications
· US Citizenship (mandatory)
· Active Top-Secret security clearance (required)
· Proven experience in network security engineering, preferably in government or defense environments
· Strong hands-on expertise with network and security technologies
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
· Firewalls: Fortinet or Palo Alto (strong proficiency preferred)
· Switches & Routers: Cisco IOS platforms
· SMTP Gateways: Fortinet or Proofpoint
· Monitoring Tools: Splunk and Stealthwatch
· Operating Systems: Windows and Linux administration
· Additional technologies: IPSec, BigFix, Crowdstrike, Guardium, Active Directory
