Role summary

Wider Security is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to support Department of Defense customers. This role involves on-site assessments of information systems, identifying compliance gaps, and implementing corrective actions to meet DoD security requirements. The ideal candidate will have a background in systems administration, network administration, and cybersecurity, with experience in government or defense environments. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, supporting inspections, performing systems and network administration, implementing security controls, maintaining documentation, and coordinating with stakeholders. The position requires an active Secret security clearance and the ability to travel to customer sites.

Wider Security is seeking a qualified Cybersecurity Engineer to support Department of Defense customers in inspection preparation, compliance improvement, and cybersecurity readiness. This position is part of a field support team that travels to customer sites to assess information systems, identify compliance gaps, implement corrective actions, and help organizations meet DoD security requirements.

The ideal candidate will bring a well-rounded background in systems administration, network administration, and cybersecurity, along with experience working in classified government or defense environments. This role requires the ability to work directly with customer personnel, evaluate existing technical environments, and support efforts to bring those environments into compliance with applicable DoD standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site assessments of customer systems and networks to identify security and compliance deficiencies.
  • Support preparation for inspections, audits, and other compliance reviews involving DoD information systems.
  • Perform systems administration duties in Windows and/or Linux environments, including account management, patching, configuration management, and system hardening.
  • Review and support administration of network devices, enclaves, and supporting infrastructure for security and compliance.
  • Implement and validate security controls in accordance with applicable DoD policies, STIGs, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Review, update, and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, hardware and software inventories, configuration records, and compliance artifacts.
  • Assist with vulnerability identification, remediation tracking, and development of corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate with customer stakeholders, technical staff, and internal teams to resolve findings and improve inspection readiness.
  • Provide clear written and verbal status reporting regarding findings, risks, and remediation progress.
  • Support additional information assurance, cybersecurity, and compliance-related activities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Relevant professional experience in cybersecurity, systems administration, and network administration.
  • Experience supporting secure IT environments within the Department of Defense or other federal government settings.
  • Working knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, inspection readiness efforts, and compliance-driven technical environments.
  • Experience administering Windows and/or Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and standard network protocols.
  • Ability to assess technical environments, identify deficiencies, and support remediation efforts.
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to prepare technical and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation, and audit support.
  • Familiarity with RMF, NIST 800-53, ACAS, SCAP, HBSS/ESS, or related DoD cybersecurity tools and frameworks.
  • Experience supporting inspection preparation, cybersecurity assessments, or formal compliance reviews.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, CASP+, Network+, CCNA, CISSP, Microsoft certifications, or Linux certifications.
  • Strong customer-facing skills and ability to operate effectively in team-based field environments.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
