About Wilder Systems

Wilder Systems, based in Austin, TX, is an industrial services company pioneering
Robots-as-a-Service
to automate complex aerospace manufacturing and maintenance processes for commercial and defense sectors. We design, build, and deploy modular autonomous robotic systems—spanning drilling, fastening, inspection, defastening, sanding, blasting, and aircraft-washing platforms.

Our rugged, mobile robots integrate seamlessly into existing facilities, combining
AI-powered perception
,
real-time data tracing
, and
advanced motion control
to deliver precision, repeatability, and safety at scale—driving the aerospace industry toward a
lights-out manufacturing future
.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development of advanced robotic and mobile manipulator software systems

- Architect, design, and implement the real-time software stack for industrial robots, including motion control algorithms, kinematics, trajectory planning, and MoveIt-based manipulation pipelines in
C++
,
Python
, and
ROS 2
.
- Build and refine autonomy features such as perception, localization, mapping, path planning, sensor fusion, and intelligent task execution for
unstructured real-world environments
.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices for scalable, reliable, and high-performance robot software.

Drive full-stack hardware–software integration

- Lead integration efforts across
mechanical, electrical, and controls teams
to ensure precise synchronization of sensors, actuators, PLCs, and industrial controllers.
- Oversee system calibration, network synchronization, and timing optimization for low-latency closed-loop performance.
- Guide the design of reusable drivers, middleware layers, and communication interfaces.

Establish robust testing, validation, and performance workflows

- Develop and maintain simulation environments, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and real-time telemetry pipelines.
- Use metrics, logging, and data analytics to
quantify system performance
(e.g., precision, throughput, uptime) and validate against customer KPIs.
- Implement root-cause analysis and system-level debugging for fielded robotic systems.

Champion software quality and delivery excellence

  • Set standards for code quality, testing, and CI/CD automation across multiple robotic programs.
  • Perform design and code reviews, refactor legacy systems, and enforce maintainability and documentation standards.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure successful deployment and lifecycle support of robotic systems in production environments.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in
Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- 5+ years
of professional software development experience, including robotics or industrial automation.
- Deep expertise in
modern C++ (C++14/17/20)
and
Python
for performance-critical, real-time systems.
- Proven experience with
ROS 2
,
MoveIt
, and complex robotic manipulation or mobile autonomy stacks.
- Strong grasp of
robotics fundamentals
: kinematics, control theory, state estimation, motion planning, and perception.
- Proficiency with

,
Git
, CI/CD systems, and real-time debugging tools.
- Demonstrated success leading technical initiatives and mentoring cross-functional engineering teams.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident required.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
for system deployments, on-site integration, and customer support.

Preferred Experience

- Advanced computer vision and 3D perception, including SLAM, calibration, and inspection pipelines.
- Field deployment experience with
industrial robotic platforms
— software bring-up, tuning, and real-world performance optimization.
- Machine learning integration
for inspection, perception, or decision-making tasks.
- Cloud-native and distributed systems
experience, including
AWS CDK
, serverless architectures, telemetry aggregation, and OTA update systems.
- Data modeling and backend design for large-scale robot telemetry and analytics pipelines
- Embedded systems expertise, including
CAN
,
