About the Role

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer - Level 2 to join our AI Infrastructure Engineering team within the Insights & Intelligence (i2) organization. This role is based in Falls Church, VA, with consideration for remote work. As part of our Chief Information & Digital Office (CIDO), the i2 team is transforming decision-making processes through innovative data, analytics, and AI solutions. The DevOps Engineer will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of DevOps and AI Systems Engineers to maintain, develop, and optimize infrastructure, API Gateways, and cloud solutions supporting our AI and analytics initiatives.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to design scalable systems capable of handling increasing data and computational demands, ensuring compliance with security standards, and driving continuous performance improvements. The role involves working closely with data scientists, software engineers, and functional teams to provide robust infrastructure support for current and future AI applications. The ideal candidate will have a passion for emerging AI technologies, cloud infrastructure, and automation, contributing to Northrop Grumman’s mission of innovation and security.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant professional experience, or
  • Master’s degree in a related field with 1+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Additional 4+ years of professional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 1+ years’ experience implementing back-end infrastructure for COTS or SaaS platforms.
  • 1+ years’ experience with automation tools such as Ansible, ArgoCD.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like CodePipeline, Azure DevOps, Jenkins.
  • Proficiency in configuration management and version control (git).
  • Hands-on experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Experience managing Windows or Linux server environments.
  • Basic knowledge of database technologies (SQL, NoSQL) and distributed computing systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • No security clearance required to start.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable systems to meet growing data and computational demands in AI applications.
  • Develop and maintain AI infrastructure that complies with security and regulatory standards, including implementing necessary controls.
  • Provide performance metrics and reliability assessments of AI infrastructure, and implement continuous improvements based on data-driven insights.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in AI technologies and infrastructure trends, evaluating their applicability to organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and functional teams to support both new and existing AI systems.
  • Automate deployment, configuration, and management processes to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Contribute to documentation, testing, and troubleshooting of infrastructure components.
  • Participate in project planning, risk assessment, and strategic decision-making related to AI infrastructure.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the organization’s AI and data initiatives.
