This senior technical role is highly impactful—driving cloud modernization, advancing our Azure Landing Zone, and strengthening cloud engineering maturity across the enterprise.
You will collaborate closely with our Cloud Architect and partner with Systems Engineers, Enterprise Architects, and cross functional teams to engineer secure, scalable, and automated cloud solutions. In this role, you will:
Assist in architecting and optimizing large scale Azure cloud infrastructure
Build reusable IaC, automation frameworks, and DevOps pipelines that elevate engineering efficiency
Mentor and develop infrastructure engineers, helping grow the organization’s cloud skillset
Strengthen Azure Landing Zone foundations across identity, networking, governance, and security
Contribute directly to the future of WoodmenLife’s cloud operating model and modernization strategy

About the Team
This role is part of the Systems Engineering team, a group of nine highly skilled infrastructure engineers within the Technical Services division of Business Technology. As a senior contributor, you’ll serve as a go to cloud expert, partnering closely with the Cloud Architect to define and operationalize cloud standards, solutions, and best practices across the enterprise.
Role Summary
The Cloud Engineer III is a senior technical contributor responsible for engineering, implementing, and optimizing WoodmenLife’s Azure cloud infrastructure. Partnering closely with the Cloud Architect, this role operationalizes cloud standards and guardrails, delivers reusable engineering patterns, and ensures secure, scalable, high performing cloud platforms that support current and future modernization initiatives.
What You’ll Do
Cloud Engineering & Platform Delivery
Design and implement complex Microsoft Azure cloud solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards
Integrate hybrid cloud environments leveraging Azure networking and identity services
Lead Infrastructure as Code development with Bicep, ARM Templates, PowerShell, and Azure CLI
Guide the development and maintenance of Azure DevOps pipelines for CI/CD and promote automation
Advance Azure Landing Zone components (governance, identity, network, security) to support enterprise-scale, secure-by-default environments
Collaborate with Cloud Architects and Enterprise Architects to implement and operationalize platform standards, engineering patterns, and cloud guardrails
Monitoring, Cost Optimization & Telemetry
Enhance cloud observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and App Insights to improve proactive detection and response
Assist in the development and maintenance of tagging strategies, budget controls, and utilization reporting to support cloud cost optimization and financial transparency
Lead efforts to monitor, analyze, and optimize cloud resource utilization, cloud cost management, and system telemetry
Automation, DevOps & Enablement
Build automation frameworks that streamline provisioning, monitoring, and operational tasks
Develop and maintain reusable templates, scripts, and modules to support enterprise self service
Embed governance controls, policy enforcement, and configuration management into automation workflows
Collaboration, Leadership & Mentoring
Mentor Systems Engineers and technical peers across the organization, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and high performance
Support Agile ceremonies and iterative delivery culture for cloud initiatives
Contribute to the Cloud Center of Excellence through knowledge sharing, documentation, tooling, and best practices
Security, Governance & Compliance
Implement Azure governance controls (Azure Policy, RBAC, resource organization)
Ensure secure by default configurations aligned with enterprise security standards
Support identity governance through Entra ID and least privilege models
Resilience, Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
Lead planning and implementation of cloud based Business Continuity and DR strategies
Implement resilient, highly available solutions leveraging availability zones, automated failover, and cloud native backup strategies
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Evaluate emerging Azure capabilities and recommend platform enhancements
Provide technical guidance and advocacy for cloud engineering best practices, automation-first patterns, and modern architectural approaches
What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
10+ years IT experience, including 7+ years hands on Azure cloud engineering and hybrid infrastructure
Deep expertise in IaC (Bicep, ARM, PowerShell, CLI)
Advanced Windows/Linux, Entra ID/AD, and hybrid networking background
Experience building Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines while supporting Agile delivery practices
Proven experience with cloud cost management, observability, and reporting
Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring skills
Extensive governance experience (Azure Policy, RBAC, tagging standards)
Expertise with hybrid connectivity technologies (ExpressRoute, VPN, Private Endpoints)
Experience supporting modernization, migration, and automation initiatives
Preferred Certifications
AZ 305: Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
AZ 400: Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
AZ 500: Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
