Role summary

WR seeks an entry-level Software Engineer (GBS) in Norfolk, VA, to support software development, computer systems, and lab operations under senior engineer guidance. Responsibilities include assisting with lab operations, data collection, technical support, requirements analysis, documentation, and participating in client meetings. The role involves coding, testing, debugging, and supporting software test procedures and system evaluations. A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and foundational knowledge in software development are required, along with experience in programming languages like C, C++, C#, or Visual Basic, and familiarity with operating systems such as Unix, Linux, or Windows. The ability to obtain a Secret Clearance is mandatory.

SUMMARY: WR has an opportunity for a Software Engineer to support the GBS division by providing software development, computer systems, and lab support. This is an entry-level role working under the guidance of senior engineers, contributing to software development, testing, and system support activities.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist engineering staff with daily lab operations, test data collection, and general technical support tasks.
  • Work under the direct technical supervision of senior personnel to complete assigned tasks.
  • Support the analysis, definition, and documentation of requirements, including data flow, workflows, system interfaces, and outputs.
  • Assist in developing plans, schedules, and tasking for software development activities.
  • Participate in client meetings to gather system requirements, objectives, and functional needs.
  • Support software development efforts, including coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Assist in the development and execution of software test procedures.
  • Support evaluation of software and hardware systems for development and integration.

Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline).
  • Foundational knowledge or academic experience in software development.
  • Working knowledge of computers, operating systems, and common applications.
  • Experience (academic or practical) with one or more programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, or other object-oriented languages.
  • Familiarity with development in Unix, Linux, Windows, and/or MS-DOS environments.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, depending on domain experience and contractual requirements.
