About The Role
We are seeking a skilled PHP Web Developer to join our dynamic IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of database-driven web applications that serve various departments within the university. Your primary focus will be designing, implementing, and enhancing web-based solutions that are reliable, scalable, and secure. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze system requirements, develop detailed specifications, and ensure seamless integration with external systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in PHP development, web design, and database management, with a passion for creating user-friendly and efficient web applications that meet institutional needs.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, with at least three years of relevant professional experience. Proven expertise in PHP programming, developing database-driven web pages, and applications with authentication mechanisms is essential. Candidates should have hands-on experience working with PHP combined with MySQL/MariaDB or Oracle databases. Familiarity with responsive web design techniques using HTML5, CSS, and related technologies is required. Additionally, experience programming for cross-browser compatibility across browsers such as IE11, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and mobile browsers is necessary. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience may be considered for a junior-level position, with compensation adjusted accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and five or more years of experience will be preferred. Additional competencies that are highly desirable include familiarity with Linux system administration, including scheduled tasks and access rights management. Experience managing Apache + PHP web servers, including configuration of httpd.conf, virtual hosts, .htaccess files, and PHP-FPM is advantageous. Strong knowledge of PHP Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), as well as proficiency in Bootstrap, jQuery, and JavaScript programming, is preferred. Experience developing and consuming APIs, particularly RESTful and SOAP services, is highly valued. Skills in working with various data formats such as XML, JSON, CSV, Excel, and adherence to WCAG accessibility standards are important. Experience with content management systems, especially Cascade CMS, Velocity, or XSLT, and version control systems will be considered a plus.
Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include designing, developing, and maintaining robust web applications tailored to the university’s needs. You will analyze system requirements, create detailed technical specifications, and write clean, efficient code. Ensuring cross-browser compatibility and responsiveness across devices will be a key aspect of your work. You will collaborate with other IT professionals and end-users to troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and optimize application performance. Additionally, you will document system components, develop interfaces for external systems, and participate in code reviews to uphold coding standards. You will also be involved in maintaining server configurations, managing database schemas, and ensuring security protocols are followed. Staying current with emerging web technologies and best practices to continuously improve our digital infrastructure will be an ongoing part of your role.
