Role summary
A fast-growing, private equity-backed SaaS organization is seeking a visionary and execution-oriented Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead engineering, AI, infrastructure, and platform strategy. This hybrid role in Denver, CO, requires 12+ years of progressive engineering leadership in B2B SaaS, with at least 4 years at an executive level. The CTO will drive AI adoption, modernize architecture, lead product integration post-merger, and manage a distributed engineering team of 20+. Key responsibilities include defining technology strategy, championing AI/ML initiatives, building responsible AI governance, owning platform security, and managing cloud infrastructure. Experience in private equity environments and a strong understanding of modern software development and AI-enabled workflows are essential. A Bachelor's degree in a technical field is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

Pay: $225k–$250k base + bonus + equity

About The Role
We are seeking a visionary and execution-oriented Chief Technology Officer to lead engineering, AI, infrastructure, and platform strategy during a pivotal period of growth and integration.
This individual will play a critical role in shaping the future of the company’s technology organization, driving AI adoption across the software development lifecycle, modernizing architecture, and accelerating product delivery timelines in a fast-moving PE-backed environment.

Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Architecture
- Define and lead the long-term technology strategy for the unified SaaS platform
- Drive platform modernization, scalability, and multi-tenant architecture initiatives
- Lead post-merger product and platform integration efforts
- Establish clear build vs. buy vs. partner strategies across AI tooling, infrastructure, and analytics
- Partner closely with executive leadership and the Board on technical roadmap and innovation strategy
AI & Product Innovation
- Lead AI/ML initiatives as a core component of the product platform
- Champion AI-assisted software development methodologies to dramatically accelerate delivery timelines
- Build responsible AI governance practices including transparency, explainability, and compliance
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, behavioral science, and business teams to deliver highly engaging customer experiences
Engineering Leadership & Execution
- Lead and mentor a distributed engineering organization of approximately 20+ team members, with planned offshore expansion
- Establish high-performing agile delivery processes and operational rigor
- Improve engineering velocity, reduce technical debt, and increase product quality
- Build a culture focused on innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
Security, Infrastructure & Compliance
- Own platform security, reliability, compliance, and cloud infrastructure strategy
- Support enterprise-grade security and compliance initiatives including SOC 2, ISO 27001, and FedRAMP roadmap planning
- Manage cloud infrastructure and operational costs with strong business and P&L awareness
- Partner with finance and legal teams on cybersecurity risk management and customer security requirements
Requirements
- 12+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience within B2B SaaS organizations
- 4+ years operating at the CTO, SVP Engineering, or equivalent executive leadership level
- Proven experience leading AI/ML and data science initiatives within customer-facing software products
- Strong background in SaaS platform architecture, scalability, and enterprise-grade infrastructure
- Experience leading M&A product integrations and platform convergence initiatives
- Prior experience operating within a private equity or venture-backed environment
- Demonstrated ability to move quickly, drive execution, and lead through organizational transformation
- Strong understanding of modern software development practices and AI-enabled engineering workflows
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field required; advanced degree preferred
Preferred Background
- Experience within HCM, HR Tech, workforce technology, or related SaaS industries
- Exposure to enterprise and public sector customer environments
- Experience managing distributed and offshore engineering teams
- Strong executive communication and Board-facing leadership skills
