Business Data Analyst

This position is an individual contributor who works with some supervision to principally deliver first-level, descriptive and diagnostic analytics as described by typical data-analytics maturity curves. This role is characterized as being responsible for delivering hindsight which will be accomplished by applying industry-current, descriptive and diagnostic data-and-analysis skills and a working knowledge of some of the most widely-used management information tools for reporting, data visualization and analysis to facilitate an understanding "what happened, why it happened and what is happening now?" Depending on the business area in which this role is deployed, there may be specialized business knowledge and experience required, consistent with business needs.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with business-line stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand their business needs and objectives, developing technical requirements, business rules and manner-of-presentation for the management information and/or analysis that meets the business need.
• Extract data from multiple sources, in a technically-efficient and secure manner, from the Enterprise Data Warehouse, AUB application systems, approved AUB data stores and approved Third Party sources and then staging data in preparation for reporting or analysis.
• Design and build management-information solutions including ad hoc data-and-analysis requests, recurring management-information reports, intermediate-complexity business-intelligence dashboards and visualizations (using Power BI, Tableau, others) and intermediate-complexity analyses. Work with AUB technical SMEs to promote recurring jobs into production.
• Provide ongoing monitoring and alerts/interpretations to stakeholders, for key performance indicators that may originate from self-made solutions or others that are made available.
• Prepare original, descriptive-and-diagnostic analysis and visualizations in response to observed business trends, as well as stakeholder-identified areas of interest or concern. Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and effective manner.
• Maintain and update authored and/or assigned management-information solutions, for relevance, utility, accuracy, risk mitigation, user access and documentation.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Undergraduate Degree within a quantitative discipline which could include: applied mathematics/statistics, data analytics, finance/economics, computer science or management information systems, business administration, among others."
• Minimum of 1 year of practical experience (workplace or internship) aligned to the Undergraduate Degree coursework and the required knowledge and skills of this role.
• Depending on the business area in which this role is employed within AUB, there may be specialized business experience required, consistent with business needs.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Fundamental proficiency in the use of Standard Query Language (SQL) or similar tools for data-informed business situations. Working knowledge of databases and the norms for data-management practices. The incumbent must be able to source and utilize their own data.
• Fundamental proficiency in at least one of several Business Intelligence tools: Tableau, Power BI, Cognos, Business Objects or similar and a demonstrated aptitude toward becoming a Tableau and Power BI power user.
• Working knowledge (which could include Undergraduate coursework) with several of the typical desk-top applications used in this role: Excel, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Jira and others, with an aptitude for eventual mastery.
• Analytical, mathematical, evaluative and problem-solving skills, commensurate to those of a capable business-data analyst. Demonstrably intellectually curious.
• Ability to present analytical concepts, results, conclusions and points of view in an easily understandable and logical manner. Excellent communication skills.
• Depending on the business area in which this role is employed within AUB, there may be specialized knowledge or skills required, consistent with business needs.

Organizational Relationship

This position reports to a Business Intelligence Manager within the BLI Group.

Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
