Role summary

The Program Manager III for Operations and Administration provides senior‑level programmatic, operational, and administrative leadership in support of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) mission across all Wake Forest University School of Medicine campuses. This role supports enterprise‑wide initiatives, strategic priorities, and operational workflows that advance UME’s goal of excellence in medical education delivery, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for UME Operations and Administration, the Program Manager III works in close partnership with UME leadership, including the Vice Dean, and collaborates extensively with stakeholders across Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Advocate Health, Atrium Health, and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health. The position requires strong operational judgment, project leadership, data‑informed decision‑making, and the ability to lead through influence in a complex, matrixed academic health system.
Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Education, or a related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in program management, operations, administration, or academic/healthcare environments
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in project leadership, complex coordination, or supervisory/lead experience
  • Experience supporting academic programs, accreditation‑sensitive environments, or multi‑site operations strongly preferred
  • Operational and Program Management
  • Serve as a senior operational lead for UME initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities, timelines, and performance outcomes
  • Manage complex, cross‑functional projects spanning multiple campuses and stakeholder groups, from planning through execution and evaluation
  • Develop, implement, and standardize administrative and operational processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability across UME
  • Support governance structures, decision‑making workflows, and documentation related to UME operations and administration
  • Strategic Planning and Execution
  • Partner with UME leadership to translate strategic goals into actionable work plans, milestones, and success metrics
  • Monitor progress on strategic initiatives, identify risks or barriers, and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Prepare executive‑level briefings, reports, and presentations for UME and institutional leadership
  • Assessment, Evaluation, and Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with the Assessment & Evaluation team, Curriculum leadership, and other stakeholders to support assessment strategies that measure program effectiveness and operational impact
  • Use data to inform continuous improvement efforts and support evidence‑based decision‑making
  • Coordinate with IT teams and external consultants, as applicable, to ensure efficient data collection, reporting, and quality assurance processes
  • Administrative Leadership and Collaboration
  • Serve as a key liaison between UME Operations and internal partners across academic affairs, student affairs, finance, IT, and institutional leadership
  • Facilitate meetings, working groups, and cross‑functional teams to advance operational objectives
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration, influence, and communication skills across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Program and Examination Support
  • Provide operational and logistical support for UME activities, including serving as a proctor for examinations across all medical school curricular years, as needed
  • Ensure adherence to institutional policies, procedures, and compliance requirements related to UME operations

Under administrative review, perform management level work directed toward the planning, implementation and coordination of one or more programs for an association, non-profit, or similar organization. Education / Experience: Bachelor's degree and 5+ or more years of experience. Master?s Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or related field preferred.
