Infrastructure Engineer
Role summary
The City of Upper Arlington is seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to manage and implement the city's network infrastructure roadmap. This role involves evaluating new technologies, designing and implementing networking solutions, administering virtual servers, and ensuring network security in compliance with laws and regulations. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a related field, with five years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure. Key responsibilities include maintaining wired, wireless, and fiber networks, managing backups and disaster recovery, and adhering to safety and legal standards. This is an onsite, full-time position within the Information Technology team.
## Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of the Information Technology team, reporting directly to the Director of Information Technology, the IT Infrastructure Engineer guides and coordinates the citywide network infrastructure and implements the city overall IT network infrastructure roadmap.

## Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: *For purposes of 42 USC 12101:*
- Evaluates new technology for increasing City operations efficiency; evaluates existing technological policies and procedures; assists with development of City-wide technology plans and implementations; designs and implements networking infrastructure; assists with technology budgeting and purchasing for City departments.
- Administers and maintains overall city network infrastructure, both wired and wireless.
- Responsible for maintaining the city fiber network and its connectivity with partner entities including UA Schools, UA Libraries, and NRECC.
- Administers virtual server infrastructure including monitoring day to day operations, backups, disaster recovery planning, storage management, upgrades and patching, and assisting with new application deployments.
- Manages and maintains overall network security and implements processes and procedures based on evolving best practices to protect the city infrastructure and data in accordance with local and federal laws and regulations.
- Maintains licenses and certifications as required, if any.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as required. (5%)
- Assists with helpdesk troubleshooting.
## Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Information Systems or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy; Network Administrator Certification or related certification desired.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); may be exposed to electric shock; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment of machines; occasionally lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects 50 lbs. or less.
Note:In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium work.
