Role Overview

We are seeking a versatile Controls & Automation Engineer to lead the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of our specialized fleet. This role is a collaborative role with the Shop Manager, with an emphasis on ensuring that mobile batch plants, slurry mixers, and automated grouting systems operate at peak efficiency with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Systems Maintenance: Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical failures on mobile batch plants and high-pressure grout pumps.
  • Automation & Programming: Maintain and optimize PLC-driven automated grouting equipment to ensure precise mix designs and flow rates while minimizing downtime
  • Sensor Integration: Calibrate and troubleshoot flow meters, pressure transducers, and and other types of monitoring devices to ensure quality control in slurry and grout production and pumping
  • Electrical Design: Read and update wiring diagrams/schematics while updating electrical components of existing equipment
  • Preventative Strategy: Work on identifying components of our grouting equipment, source (when possible) or in the event that parts/components cannot be sourced work to redesign systems to utilize easy to source components

Candidate Requirements

  • Technical Versatility: Deep knowledge of PLC logic (Rockwell/RSLogix) and VFD/Inverter programming (Yaskawa, ABB, or similar).
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong hands-on experience with industrial mechanics, including hydraulics, gearboxes, bearings, and heavy-duty pump systems.
  • Field Ready: Ability to troubleshoot in rugged environments and perform root-cause analysis under production pressure.
  • Software Proficiency: Competency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks for modifying equipment designs or electrical enclosures.
  • Self-Starter: Proven ability to act as the "sole resource" for complex machinery, taking ownership of a machine from the motherboard to the manifold.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Basic computer and smartphone skills
  • Construction or mechanical experience
  • Ability to travel weekly
