Role summary

We are seeking a contract SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) for a hybrid role in Baltimore, Dallas, or Wilmington. This position involves collaborating with agile teams to deliver scalable software solutions, managing regression suites with a focus on automation and risk-based testing, and designing/implementing automated test frameworks. The role requires integrating quality signals into CI/CD pipelines, performing API and database testing, and utilizing advanced debugging tools. A key aspect is the application of agentic AI in test creation and quality inspection within a fast-paced environment. The role also includes mentoring junior QA engineers.

Day to day:

  • Collaborate with an agile team to deliver scalable software solutions, participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and sprint planning.
  • Manage and refine the regression suite using risk-based testing, strategically selecting test cases, and leveraging automation to provide efficient feedback on critical workflows.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks and custom tools; analyze requirements with stakeholders to define the testing scope and recommend best practices.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, execute detailed test cases, and validate regression coverage with metric-driven analysis to ensure reliability of software releases.
  • Integrate quality signals and test automation into CI/CD pipelines, publish coverage dashboards, and support dependable, high-quality software releases.
  • Identify and report defects and process issues using advanced debugging tools, working directly with developers for rapid issue resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Align testing strategies with SDETs and stakeholders, contribute to technical discussions, and mentor junior QA engineers.
  • Utilize agentic AI in test creation, performance optimization, and quality inspection.
  • Thrive working in a fast-paced environment where applying responsible use of agent AI is the new norm.

Must haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Quality Engineering or SDET roles, demonstrating leadership in regression strategy and test automation.
  • Expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript; knowledge of Ruby, Java, or Python is a strong asset.
  • Experience with Playwright, Selenium, TestCafe, Appium, WebdriverIO, RSpec/Capybara, or TestNG for UI/API testing.
  • Skilled in test management platforms (Xray, TestRail, Azure DevOps), API testing (Postman, JMeter, SOAP UI), and data formats such as JSON/XML.
  • Proficient with SQL/NoSQL databases (especially Postgres) and AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong skills in Git, CircleCI, Jenkins, and pipeline integration.
  • Advanced understanding of risk-based testing and test case prioritization.
  • Proficient in shell scripting for automation and deployment tasks.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills; effective collaborator and mentor, promoting quality engineering standards.

Salary and Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position is between
$80 - $85 per hour
. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
