Position Overview

Contract Professionals, Inc. is seeking a senior-level Embedded Software Engineer to support advanced tactical communication systems in a defense engineering environment. This role focuses on developing resilient, high-performance embedded software for mission-critical systems operating in contested environments. The selected candidate will work within a cross-functional team integrating secure communications hardware and software supporting national security initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain embedded software applications using C and/or C++
  • Design and implement low-level drivers and hardware interface layers
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software and embedded subsystems
  • Perform debugging, validation, and performance optimization of real-time systems
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to software quality improvement initiatives
  • Document architecture, design specifications, and unit test results
  • Ensure compliance with internal development processes and industry standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline
  • 2+ years of embedded software development experience (senior-level experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong expertise in C and/or C++
  • Proven experience with low-level driver development
  • Experience with communication protocols such as UART, SPI, and I2C
  • Familiarity with unit testing frameworks
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Signal processing or DSP experience
  • Advanced Linux knowledge (kernel, drivers, networking, system services)
  • Multi-threaded and multi-core programming
  • Network protocols and socket programming
  • Experience with Rust, Python, or MATLAB
  • Cryptographic techniques, secure boot, or embedded security experience
  • Power management in embedded systems
  • Agile development methodologies
  • CI/CD and automated testing pipelines

9/80 work schedule available (every other Friday off, if desired).
