Role summary

EarnIn is seeking a Staff Mobile Software Engineer to join their mobile development teams. This hybrid role, based in Mountain View, requires 7+ years of experience in native iOS and Android development, with deep expertise in both platforms. The engineer will lead architecture, contribute hands-on code, and leverage Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP). Responsibilities include defining mobile architecture, collaborating with product teams, mentoring engineers, and driving scalability and performance. The position offers a salary range of $252,000 to $308,000 annually, plus equity and benefits, and requires working from the Mountain View HQ at least 2 days a week.

POSITION SUMMARY
We're on a mission to reinvent the financial system and make it work for people. We are seeking passionate and resourceful engineers to join our mobile development teams. You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact with your technical contributions and influence how people think about money. As a Staff Mobile Engineer at EarnIn, you will work cross-functionally with various teams and will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of our services and both new and legacy products.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $252,000 to $308,000, plus equity and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. This hybrid position requires in-person work from our Mountain View HQ 2+ days a week.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Architecture Leadership: Define, evolve, and advocate for a scalable, modular, and maintainable native mobile architecture across iOS and Android.
  • Hands-On Contribution: Lead by example with code and architecture spikes in both platforms.
  • Cross-Platform Expertise: Leverage Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) where it makes sense, guiding the adoption strategy and avoiding the pitfalls of overabstraction.
  • Collaboration: Partner with multiple product engineering teams to ensure mobile features are implemented with architectural integrity while balancing speed and business outcomes.
  • Mentorship: Uplift mobile engineers across teams by evangelizing design patterns, clean code practices, testing strategies, and performance optimization.
  • Multi-Tasking & Context Switching: Drive architecture conversations across several ongoing initiatives simultaneously without losing depth or rigor.
  • Scalability & Performance: Proactively identify bottlenecks, tech debt, and long-term risks; propose solutions that scale with user growth and product expansion.
  • Immediate Impact: Jump in quickly to bring clarity, untangle existing architectural challenges, and unlock velocity for ongoing product initiatives.

    • WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 7+ years of professional experience in native mobile development with deep expertise in both iOS and Android.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering large-scale, complex mobile applications used by millions.
  • Deep knowledge of mobile architecture design patterns (MVC, MVP, MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Swift, SwiftUI, Objective-C (legacy), Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Java (legacy).
  • Solid understanding of cross-platform approaches, including KMP (must have some hands-on experience).
  • Strong grasp of API design, modularization, dependency management, CI/CD, release strategies, and mobile DevOps pipelines.
  • Experience in influencing and aligning multiple product engineering teams on architecture decisions.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to explain complex architecture trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in modernizing legacy codebases and leading significant refactoring efforts is preferred.
  • Exposure to mobile security best practices and handling of sensitive data is preferred.
  • Familiarity with mobile analytics, crash reporting, feature flagging, and experimentation platforms preferred.
  • Experience in fintech, regulated industries, or high-scale consumer applications is a plus.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, LLMs)
