This Research Data Analyst role supports a clinical research program focused on immune-behavioral health and pediatric post-infectious neuropsychiatric conditions. You will manage, harmonize, and analyze multi-source datasets (surveys, clinical records, biobank metadata) and produce reproducible analyses, tables/figures, and reports for investigators and publications.
- Collect, clean, harmonize, and manage datasets from multiple sources (surveys, biobank, clinical systems).
- Develop and maintain reproducible code, scripts, and pipelines for data processing and analysis.
- Perform statistical analyses and build models appropriate to study designs (including regression techniques).
- Select and annotate specimens based on study criteria in collaboration with the research team.
- Create tables, charts, and figures for internal reporting, presentations, and manuscripts.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues; document root causes and recommend fixes or field edits.
- Collaborate with epidemiologists, clinical data managers, faculty, and research staff on methods and documentation.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and publication efforts; authorship opportunities may be available.
- Maintain change control, code annotation, and reproducible documentation for analyses and data products.
- Other duties as assigned in a small cross-functional team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience) in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, computer/data science, engineering, or another quantitative field.
- Substantial hands-on experience with data management and analytical tools.
- High proficiency in at least one programming/statistical language: R, SAS, Python, SQL, Java, and/or Rust.
- Demonstrated experience using REDCap (data collection platform).
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize workload.
- Strong written communication skills for reporting and documentation.
- Ability and willingness to work cross-functionally on a small, flexible team.
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
- Master’s or advanced degree in Biostatistics, Computer/Data Science, Epidemiology, or related field.
- Experience applying statistical methods in clinical or epidemiologic research.
- Prior experience working with biobank datasets and specimen selection workflows.
- Publication or manuscript experience (opportunity for authorship on some projects).
- Interest in clinical medicine and post-infectious neuropsychiatric conditions.
- Familiarity with data visualization and tools for table/figure development.
- Experience with change control, code annotation, and reproducible research practices.
Location, Schedule & Compensation
- Position type: Full-time.
- Location: Role is based in the California Bay Area with hybrid or remote arrangements potentially considered.
- Compensation (pay transparency): The confidential client provides pay ranges representing its good-faith estimate of expected pay for this position. For employees working in the California Bay Area, the salary range is $80,148 to $99,773, depending on experience and background. Final pay will be determined based on factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate qualifications, departmental budget, internal equity, geographic location, and market pay for comparable roles.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily desk-based work with extensive computer use and keyboarding.
- Occasional phone use and rare manual writing.
- Some work may be performed in a laboratory or field setting.
