About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Back-End Software Engineer (Experienced or Senior) to join our Model-Based Engineering Software team based in Berkeley, Missouri. This role will primarily support Boeing Defense Services (BDS) and focus on developing innovative prototypes, web applications, and backend services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend development, system architecture, and cloud-based infrastructure, with a passion for creating scalable, reliable, and high-performance software solutions. You will be instrumental in designing APIs, developing data processing pipelines, optimizing database queries, and building production-ready infrastructure to support complex applications. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and influence the architectural decisions that drive our software ecosystem forward. Additionally, there is potential for this role to evolve into a full-stack position, encompassing frontend development responsibilities, based on the candidate’s interests and skills.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education, experience, and technical skills, including:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
• Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain Special Program Access
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in backend software development using Java, Spring, Oracle SQL, SQL Server, or similar technologies
• Proficiency in server-side programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java
• Extensive experience working with SQL and PL/SQL database technologies
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
• Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and cloud platforms
• Experience with infrastructure development, CI/CD pipelines, containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes, and version control systems such as GitLab
• Knowledge of modern frontend frameworks such as NodeJS and ReactJS is a plus for those interested in full-stack development
• Excellent problem-solving skills, teamwork, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of tasks, including but not limited to:

• Leading the architecture, development, documentation, and maintenance of efficient and innovative software processes, tools, and methodologies to streamline the software lifecycle
• Providing technical oversight for production-ready systems, guiding teams in design, implementation, and operation
• Evaluating emerging technologies and seeking innovative solutions to address technical challenges
• Mentoring and developing engineers across all levels through knowledge sharing and collaboration
• Managing projects from inception to completion with minimal supervision, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards
• Shaping the architecture of multiple web applications, including infrastructure for communication, logging, alerts, authentication, and configuration management
• Creating comprehensive test suites to verify system reliability, performance, and behavior under various conditions
• Collaborating with stakeholders and team members to define requirements and implement solutions that meet operational needs
• Prototyping new features and applications, and driving innovation through research and implementation of new technologies
• Participating in architectural discussions, influencing the development roadmap, and taking ownership of key projects
• Resolving complex technical issues, driving system improvements to enhance availability, resilience, and scalability
• Overseeing code reviews to ensure adherence to standards and best practices
• Ensuring compliance with industry regulations and security standards relevant to software development and deployment
