About The Role
The Specialist, Software Engineering - DSP position at L3Harris Technologies offers an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled engineer to contribute to the development of advanced tactical radio systems and waveform software. Operating onsite in Sunrise, FL, or Rochester, NY, this role involves designing, developing, and testing embedded software solutions that are critical to national defense. The successful candidate will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from conceptual design through implementation and testing, while working independently and mentoring junior engineers. A strong background in signal processing, DSP algorithms, and embedded Linux systems is essential, as well as a passion for innovative technology solutions. This role provides a chance to work on mission-critical projects that directly impact national security and to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, reliable software systems.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should possess a minimum of 4 years of experience in C/C++ programming and Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Candidates with a graduate degree should have at least 2 years of relevant experience, while those without a degree must demonstrate at least 8 years of equivalent experience in software engineering. Additional preferred skills include comprehensive knowledge of embedded software development on software-defined radio platforms, experience with Linux application development and device driver interfaces, and familiarity with real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, Linux, or QNX. Experience with multi-threaded, multi-core design, version control systems like Git or Bitbucket, and continuous integration tools such as Jenkins is highly desirable. Candidates should also have prior experience designing and optimizing DSP algorithms, analyzing DSP performance, and working with radio communication waveforms, modulations, and digital signaling. Eligibility to obtain a US security clearance is required.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include designing and developing embedded software and platforms for next-generation tactical radios, creating application-level libraries for interfacing with hardware and software components within embedded Linux systems, and developing software test procedures and documentation. The role involves participating in peer reviews, identifying and addressing software defects, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate interfaces and operational requirements. Candidates will be expected to prepare work estimates, contribute to project scheduling, and break down tasks for sprint planning within an Agile environment. Providing technical support to internal teams and external customers, including factory software introduction and manufacturing issue resolution, is also essential. Mentoring junior engineers and guiding them through complex technical challenges will be a key aspect of the role, ensuring team growth and knowledge sharing. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively across teams.
