Senior Mechanical Engineer
Role summary
Freeform is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design efforts and drive hardware innovation in AI-native manufacturing systems. This role requires extensive technical breadth in mechanical engineering, with expertise in architecting, designing, and developing complex mechanical systems, advanced robotics, or industrial automation. The ideal candidate is a systems-level thinker, capable of detailed work and cross-disciplinary collaboration, with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 5+ years of experience in mechanical systems design and development, including CAD and GD&T. The position is based in Hawthorne and requires full-time onsite presence.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Freeform, you will be responsible for leading mechanical design efforts across the company, as well as for driving the pace of innovation and maximizing hardware development speed. To be successful in this role, you must have extensive technical breadth in mechanical engineering concepts as well as specific expertise in architecting, designing, and developing complex mechanical systems, advanced robotics systems, or state-of-the-art industrial automation systems. The ideal candidate is capable of acting as the technical lead for a complex system with the ability work across engineering disciplines.
3D printing experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard problems and creating amazing technology!

Based in Hawthorne, our vertically integrated facility brings technology development, R&D, and production together under one roof. We operate at the center of LA’s deep tech ecosystem, surrounded by some of the most ambitious hardware innovation happening anywhere in the country.
Our fast-paced, cross-functional environment is built on close collaboration, and as such, this role requires full-time onsite presence (five days a week), with very limited exceptions.
