## About Hazel

Hazel is the AI coworker for consumer brands. We connect to a brand's live data — Shopify, Amazon, Stripe, warehouse systems — and turn it into an AI teammate that can answer business questions, run multi-step research, and surface opportunities that would take a human hours to find. Think: "what's driving the drop in repeat purchase rate?" answered in minutes, with citations, from real data.

We're a small, venture-backed team and already working with great brands you'd recognize. We're hiring our next founding engineer to build alongside us.

## The Role

You'll own major pieces of the product end-to-end — from the conversational AI interface to the data integrations that power it. You'll work directly with the founders and customers, ship fast, and have real influence over what we build and how.

## What You'll Do

• Build AI agent workflows — streaming LLM responses, multi-step research with tool use, human-in-the-loop approvals.
• Ship product features across the full stack: React, Typescript / Golang services
• Design and extend integrations with platforms like Shopify, Amazon Ads, and Stripe
• Define service contracts with protobuf and build the infrastructure that connects our services
• Work directly with customers to understand what they need and translate that into product

## About You

• Strong software engineer with meaningful startup or high-growth experience
• You've shipped end-to-end products — not just features within a larger system
• High agency — you figure things out, make tradeoffs, and move fast without waiting for permission
• Deep TypeScript experience; comfortable picking up Python or Go as needed
• Solid understanding of database design and query performance (Postgres, DuckDB)
• You care about getting the interface right, not just the API

## Bonus Points

• Experience building with LLMs — prompt engineering, tool use, retrieval, agent architectures, skills, mcp, etc.
• E-commerce, consumer, or retail domain knowledge
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration (Temporal, etc.)
