Overview

Our client is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to oversee the development, stability, and competitive edge of its products, which serve as a mission-critical SaaS platform at the core of MLS organizations and the real estate professionals they support. For more than twenty years, our platform has managed high-volume listing data, real-time search, collaboration workflows, and transaction-critical activities where uptime, performance, and data integrity are essential.

In the MLS PropTech landscape, platform reliability, compliance discipline, and architectural agility directly influence competitive positioning. Sitting at the intersection of people, delivery, and technical direction, this role is responsible for ensuring our products remain secure, scalable, high-performing, and strategically differentiated in a market where technical mistakes quickly turn into business risks. You will safeguard production stability while leading modernization efforts that reduce technical debt, strengthen data governance controls, and enhance long-term maintainability.

As a people-first engineering leader within a disciplined Agile framework, you will directly oversee all developers and QA engineers on your Customer Oriented Development (COD) teams. You will align their work with the company's strategy, promote a culture of accountability and ongoing growth, and ensure deadlines are met without sacrificing quality. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the release team to guarantee predictable, timely deliveries.

Success in this role involves more than just delivering software on time. It means effectively managing all developers and QA engineers across COD teams to keep them motivated, support their professional growth, and ensure consistent quality in their deliverables. It also requires coordinating with the release team to maintain the reliability and competitiveness of our products in the MLS market.

ROLE OBJECTIVES

Responsibilities:

  • Directly managing all developers and QA engineers across all COD teams, setting expectations, monitoring performance, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Managing all QA engineers across all COD teams to enhance software quality, lower defect escape rates, and establish strict testing standards.
  • Achieving sprint predictability and delivering high-quality products.
  • Developing talent and excelling in recruiting the right people.
  • Constantly improving engineering processes and tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • More than 5 years of professional software engineering experience, Working familiarity with the team’s core technology stack (Java, Spring, JavaScript).
  • Over three years of engineering leadership experience.
  • Proven success in production SaaS environments where uptime, scalability, and performance are essential.
  • Demonstrated history of managing engineering talent, conducting structured performance reviews, and developing career growth frameworks.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to credibly collaborate with engineering teams and assess technical trade-offs; individual architectural expertise is not necessary (see Preferred section).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation practices.
  • Experience improving engineering process maturity in growing organizations.
  • Experience in distributed systems or modular monolith architecture.

PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • An understanding of MLS systems, real estate technology, or data-intensive SaaS platforms.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch and NoSQL technologies (MongoDB or similar).
  • Awareness of Artificial Intelligence concepts & AI-based programming techniques
