Role summary
JMC Automation is seeking a Controls Engineer to take full technical ownership of industrial automation systems for packaging machinery, from concept through startup. This hands-on role involves designing electrical systems and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical, programming PLC/HMI systems (Omron or Allen-Bradley preferred), and integrating robotic systems (KUKA/FANUC). The engineer will lead machine commissioning, startup, and debugging, troubleshoot systems, and prepare documentation. The ideal candidate has 6-10+ years of experience in industrial automation, strong PLC programming skills, and proven hands-on commissioning experience. This is a project-driven, in-person role with occasional travel.

The role
We are hiring a Controls Engineer to take full technical ownership of automation systems from concept through startup.
You will be expected to take full technical ownership of your projects.
This is not a support role.
You will design it… program it… and bring it to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems and schematics (AutoCAD Electrical)
- Program PLC/HMI systems (Omron preferred)
- Integrate and program robotic systems (KUKA / FANUC)
- Lead machine commissioning, startup, and debugging
- Collaborate with mechanical, sales, and build teams
- Troubleshoot systems in-house and at customer sites
- Prepare documentation (BOMs, drawings, as-builts)
- Participate in customer reviews and technical discussions
Required Experience
- 6 - 10+ years in industrial automation / controls engineering
- Strong PLC programming experience (Omron and/or Allen-Bradley)
- Experience designing electrical schematics and panels
- Hands-on commissioning experience on real equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and controls systems independently
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience with KUKA or FANUC robots
- Servo motion / multi-axis systems
- Pneumatics and machine control systems
- Packaging or material handling automation
- ERP or project-based manufacturing systems

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
