Role summary

Newell Brands is seeking an Automation Engineer to lead projects for new and existing manufacturing processes. This role involves managing the purchase, installation, debugging, and documentation of new equipment, improving safety, training staff, and analyzing/resolving process problems. The engineer will also develop business cases for capital projects, manage cross-functional teams, and support R&D. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, 3-5 years of relevant manufacturing experience, strong project management, analytical, and troubleshooting skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD. Experience with automation implementation and plastic injection molding is preferred.

The Manufacturing Engineering Team provides engineering and project management expertise in support of the manufacture of new products and the advancement of existing manufacturing processes. The Automation Engineer will lead projects to completion in a cost-effective and timely manner, handle multiple projects and be responsible to plan, prioritize and execute assignments.

Job Responsibilities

  • (40%) New/Replacement Equipment Implementation
  • Manage purchase, installation, debugging, and documentation of new auxiliary equipment. (Robots, conveyers, labelers, case sealers, and other misc. specialized assembly equipment
  • Improve safety in manufacturing operations by addressing ergonomic and other safety concerns
  • Train staff on the operation of new equipment
  • Evaluate Manufacturing Processes and recommend methods, materials, and layouts for improvements based on manufacturing needs and capabilities
  • Analyze and resolve major process problems with machinery
  • (20%) Project Management
  • Develop business case, attain quotes, execute approval process and manage implementation of major capital improvement/replacement projects
  • Provide leadership and support to cross-functional teams comprised of Safety, Environmental, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Quality and Scheduling
  • - Develop project timelines and work to meet target launch dates
  • (15%) Productivity
  • Evaluate and assist in the development of new manufacturing technologies
  • Recommends and implements methods, materials, and layouts for improvements based on manufacturing needs and capabilities
  • Improve direct labor efficiencies
  • (10%) R&D support
  • Involved in developing manufacturing processes and equipment in support of new and improved products
  • Creates and updates Manufacturing Documents in support of current and new products
  • Ensures current and accurate costing in conjunction with Finance
  • (15%) Support manufacturing in the daily troubleshooting of equipment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or similar field of study
  • 3 - 5 years relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Skilled in hands on equipment troubleshooting and process improvements
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office software and CAD
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and tracking
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with implementation of Automation, both large and small scale
  • Experience with plastic injection molding
