Role summary
The Director of Security is responsible for the overall safety and security of the Moapa Travel Plaza. This leadership role directs all security operations, enforces policies, manages the security team, and serves as the primary point of contact for emergencies and law enforcement coordination. The Director ensures a safe environment, protects revenue, and upholds tribal standards. Key duties include overseeing daily operations, developing policies, training staff, responding to incidents, managing surveillance systems, conducting investigations, implementing loss prevention, ensuring compliance, and managing the security budget.
Position Summary
The Director of Security is responsible for the overall safety and security of the Moapa Travel Plaza, including its guests, employees, assets, and property. This leadership role directs all security operations, enforces policies and procedures, manages the security team, and serves as the primary point of contact for emergencies, incidents, and coordination with tribal and outside law enforcement. The Head of Security ensures a safe, welcoming environment that protects enterprise revenue and upholds the standards of the Moapa Band of Paiutes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct day-to-day security operations across the Travel Plaza, including the fuel stations, retail store, amenity areas, parking lots, and surrounding property.
- Develop, implement, and regularly update security policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures.
- Recruit, schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate security officers and shift leads; build coverage to maintain a 24/7 secure environment.
- Respond to and manage incidents, emergencies, medical situations, theft, and disturbances; make sound decisions under pressure.
- Serve as primary liaison with the Moapa Tribal Police, local and county law enforcement, fire, and emergency services.
- Oversee surveillance and access-control systems (CCTV, alarms, key control); monitor footage and maintain accurate records.
- Conduct investigations into incidents, losses, and policy violations; prepare clear, accurate written reports and maintain documentation.
- Implement loss-prevention measures to protect cash handling, inventory, fuel, and enterprise assets.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tribal, federal, and safety regulations; lead emergency-preparedness and evacuation planning.
- Manage the security budget, staffing levels, equipment, and vendor relationships within approved allocations.
- Promote excellent guest service and a professional, de-escalation-first approach among the security team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises the security staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with tribal enterprise policies and applicable laws, including training, scheduling, performance management, and addressing complaints and disciplinary matters.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience, including at least 4 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of security operations, surveillance systems, emergency response, and investigation procedures.
- Strong leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in high-pressure and emergency situations.
- Proficiency with security technology, incident-reporting software, and standard office applications.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening in accordance with personnel policy.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Security guard/CPR/First Aid certifications preferred or obtainable within 60 days of hire.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to physically respond to security situations as needed.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as operations require.
