Peregrine Professional Services is building an AI-native accounting firm designed to operate with a lean team powered by intelligent automation and AI agents.

Beyond traditional accounting services, the firm is developing an internal agentic operating system for accounting firms, an orchestration layer that coordinates AI agents across bookkeeping, tax, financial reporting, compliance, and operations.

The goal is to automate accounting workflows end-to-end while maintaining reliability, auditability, and human oversight.

This role offers the opportunity to help build the core automation infrastructure that will power a modern accounting firm and potentially evolve into a broader platform used by other firms.

Position Overview

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to design and build an AI-driven workflow orchestration platform and the network of agents that operate within it.

This role focuses on translating operational accounting workflows into automated systems. You will build agent pipelines, orchestrate tool usage, integrate APIs, and design systems that allow AI agents to operate reliably in production environments.

You will work directly with the founder to build the firm's agentic accounting infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

AI Agent Development

• Design and build AI agents for operational accounting workflows

• Implement agents for tasks such as bookkeeping, reconciliation, and reporting

• Develop structured task pipelines for agent-based workflows

• Implement guardrails, validation systems, and monitoring for agent outputs

Workflow Orchestration

• Build the orchestration layer coordinating agents, tools, and workflows

• Design systems enabling multiple agents to collaborate on complex tasks

• Implement task routing, workflow triggers, and queueing systems

• Build human-in-the-loop review mechanisms

Automation Infrastructure

• Build integrations between accounting systems and automation tools

• Connect APIs across accounting software, document systems, and AI services

• Implement event-driven automation architecture

• Ensure reliability, error handling, and logging across workflows

Accounting Workflow Automation

• Translate accounting processes into automated pipelines

• Optimize workflows to minimize manual intervention

• Build systems for tasks such as:

transaction categorization

reconciliation workflows

financial reporting preparation

document ingestion and processing

Platform Development

• Contribute to Peregrine’s internal automation platform for accounting firms

• Design scalable architecture for agent orchestration

• Build modular automation components reusable across workflows

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in automation engineering, software engineering, or workflow automation

• Strong programming experience (Python preferred)

• Experience working with APIs and system integrations

• Experience building automation pipelines or workflow systems

• Understanding of event-driven architectures and task orchestration

• Ability to design reliable, observable, and fault-tolerant systems

• Comfortable working in a startup-style environment with rapid iteration

• Strong English communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building AI agents or LLM-based workflows

• Experience with orchestration frameworks (Temporal, Airflow, Prefect, LangGraph, etc.)

• Experience integrating AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)

• Experience with automation platforms such as Make or Zapier

• Experience working with financial or accounting systems

• Familiarity with backend architecture and database design

• Experience building internal tools or developer platforms
