Rate: $112/hour (Fixed)

Position Overview

The Service Delivery Public Safety IT Team is seeking a Senior Hybrid Cloud Platform Engineer to support enterprise modernization initiatives. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and optimizing hybrid cloud infrastructure (on-premises + AWS) to improve scalability, efficiency, and reliability.

The ideal candidate will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to modernize legacy systems, automate infrastructure, and enable secure, cost-effective cloud operations.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure

Design, implement, and manage AWS environments (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3)

Build and maintain hybrid cloud architectures integrating on-prem and AWS systems

Lead migration of legacy systems to AWS, including readiness assessments and modernization strategies

Create and maintain architecture diagrams and technical documentation

Production Support & Troubleshooting

Provide L3 support for complex infrastructure issues

Troubleshoot AWS IAM, networking, and compute-related issues

Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term fixes

Support resolution of hybrid issues (directory sync, routing, IAM misconfigurations)

Infrastructure Reliability & Performance

Ensure high availability and eliminate single points of failure

Implement backup, disaster recovery (DR), RTO/RPO strategies

Monitor system performance (compute, storage, network)

Optimize infrastructure for performance and cost efficiency

Automation & DevOps

Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform

Collaborate on automation using Ansible (nice to have)

Support CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments

Standardize deployment processes across environments (Dev, QA, Prod)

Cost Optimization (FinOps)

Analyze and optimize AWS costs (rightsizing, storage tiers, lifecycle policies)

Provide cost estimation and budgeting guidance

Balance performance with cost efficiency in cloud environments

Security & Compliance

Implement AWS security best practices:

IAM policies, RBAC, MFA

Encryption and network segmentation

Maintain compliance documentation and audit artifacts

Develop platform hardening guidelines and security standards

Documentation & Governance

Maintain detailed architecture, operational, and automation documentation

Create runbooks, SOPs, and onboarding guides

Prepare change impact analysis and release documentation

Deliver executive-level summaries of infrastructure initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of experience in cloud/platform/system engineering

Strong expertise in:

AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3)

Hybrid cloud architecture (on-prem + cloud)

Experience with:

Terraform (IaC)

CI/CD pipelines

Infrastructure monitoring and troubleshooting

Strong knowledge of:

AWS IAM & RBAC (critical requirement)

Networking and system integration

Experience in cost optimization / FinOps practices

Nice to Have

Experience with Ansible

Exposure to public sector or public safety environments

Advanced automation and scripting skills
