Senior Power Systems Automation Engineer

Nyati Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Power Systems Automation Engineer to support the design, implementation, and commissioning of automation systems for medium and high-voltage substations.

This is a hands-on, technical leadership role for professionals who thrive in the field, enjoy solving complex problems, and want direct ownership of projects from design through commissioning.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement substation automation, protection, and control systems
• Configure and test RTUs, PLCs, and IEDs for protection and control schemes
• Develop and support systems using IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE, SMV) and other protocols

Create engineering deliverables including:

• Control logic diagrams
• Network architectures
• Signal lists
• Functional design specifications
• Lead and execute FATs, SATs, and field commissioning activities
• Serve as a technical lead, mentoring junior engineers and guiding execution
• Act as a client-facing engineer for troubleshooting, commissioning, and lifecycle support

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering
• 5+ years of substation automation / power systems experience
• Experience as a technical lead on engineering projects
• Willingness to travel 50–75% depending on project assignments and requirements

Strong ability to interpret:

• AC/DC schematics
• One-line and three-line diagrams

Working knowledge of:

• IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 101/103/104
• Hands-on commissioning experience (FAT/SAT + field work)

Experience programming with at least one major platform:

• SEL, Siemens, ABB

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced networking (Layer 2 / Layer 3) for substation systems

Minimum Required Experience (Must Have)

• Direct experience with substation automation systems (not industrial controls)
• Hands on commissioning experience in energized substations
• Proven experience with IEC 61850 configuration (GOOSE, MMS, SMV)
• Experience configuring RTUs / IEDs / relays (SEL, Siemens, ABB)
• Ability to work independently in the field without supervision

This role is specifically for engineers with hands on substation automation and commissioning experience (IEC 61850, RTU/PLC, protection & control). Candidates without this background will not be considered.
