Sign up to see compensation estimateTRC Talent is working alongside a leading manufacturer that is seeking experienced professionals in power transmission and distribution, specializing in substation automation and protection relay engineering, to join our Power Systems Engineering team.
This position will ideally be based in Corpus Christi, TX. Relocation is provided.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Design, implement, and maintain automation systems for medium- and high-voltage substations.
- Configure and test RTU/PLC for protection and control schemes.
- Develop applications using IEC 61850 and other relevant communication protocols.
- Create and support control logic diagrams, network architectures, signal lists, and functional design documents.
- Prepare and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), including commissioning.
- Lead technical aspects of projects and guide team members.
- Serve as a primary customer contact for troubleshooting, commissioning, and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic/computer science engineering.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in
power automation
for electrical substations.
- Project Technical Lead experience.
- Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for Low, Medium and/or High Voltage substations systems.
- Advanced knowledge of at least one of the automation products and associated software from vendors such as Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB
- Communication Network Technologies, including Design and hardware configuration.
- Communication protocols such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, Profinet, Profibus.
- Substation Automation commissioning experience.
- Factory and Site testing experience in automation and control systems
- Around 50 to 75% of travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Communication Network Technologies, including Design, Configuration, and troubleshooting of layer 2 and layer 3 capable devices for protection and automation applications.
- Advanced Programming skills and experience with programming languages used in process and power automation such as C++, ST, LD, FBD.
