Role Description

We’re looking for a self-organized Staff iOS Engineer to join as one of the earliest engineering hires who'd help define and build the mobile-first Outsmart platform.

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Staff iOS Engineer at Outsmart College. We are currently remote while we establish our offices in New York City and San Francisco.

You will be responsible for helping design, develop, and support iOS applications. The role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable iOS code.

You will excel if you are product-minded and can drive scalable technical solutions that align with our company mission.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement well-tested Swift/SwiftUI iOS apps.
  • Work with Design, Product and Infrastructure teams to hone the best UI and deployment practices.
  • Collaborate with our researchers to onboard ideas onto the platform.
  • Be part of a supportive team that values feedback and your contributions.
  • Iterate on process, technology, and communication to improve these company-wide.
  • Participate in hiring and building our technical team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Significant experience with iOS using UIKit and SwiftUI.
  • 8+ years of experience in developing mobile applications for the iOS environment.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Extensive experience with Swift, UIKit, SwiftUI, and Apple Frameworks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sense of team as well as sense of self.
  • Proven understanding of Swift and Objective-C runtimes and processes that run “under the hood.”.
  • A thoughtful, practical approach to problem solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering.
  • Curious about new or unfamiliar technologies, organizational structures, and product vision.
  • Comfortable asking questions and seeking knowledge in unfamiliar or ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to accomplish complex engineering tasks independently.
  • Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations and provide technical leadership as needed.
  • Experience working at an early-stage startup.
  • Experience working with architectural design patterns including MVVM/C, VIPER, VIP, etc.
  • Experience designing features for iOS & Android apps in parallel.
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Experience with TCA is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with CoreML or other ML/AI experience.
  • Experience developing educational apps or games.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $185,000-$240,000 annually. This position includes early-stage equity.
