Role summary
Pier is seeking its first Business Development Representative (BDR) to join their AI-enabled fintech compliance platform. This role is critical in shaping the go-to-market strategy, growing the top-of-funnel pipeline, and driving outbound sales. The BDR will be responsible for prospecting, multi-channel outreach, lead qualification using frameworks like BANT/MEDDPICC, and scheduling discovery calls. The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of sales or business development experience, preferably in fintech or early-stage startups, and is comfortable with tools like Close CRM and Apollo. This is a remote, full-time position for a self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and has a strong interest in fintech and compliance.
### About Us
At Pier, our mission is to improve financial access for Americans by enabling the next generation of financial services providers. We're building Vanta for fintech compliance — an AI-enabled trusted compliance platform for fintech license management and regulatory reporting. We help teams launch, automate and scale compliant fintech products with confidence, handling the end-to-end fintech licensing compliance — license application, renewals, policy management, regulatory reporting, examinations, audits and more. \
\
Built by a team with deep expertise in credit, fintech and compliance, we’ve raised an oversubscribed round from top-tier VCs and have gotten close to 7-figure ARR. 🚀🚀🚀\
\
As the 1st BDR at Pier, you will work directly with our CEO/Cofounder and play a critical role in shaping the GTM motion of our company, growing top of funnel and driving outbound pipelines. This is a foundational role — ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast, and wants to help build a category-defining company from the ground up.
### Your Primary Responsibilities Will Be:
* **Prospecting & Lead Generation:** Identify and research companies and individuals that match our ideal customer profile (ICP), and grow our top-of-funnel pipeline.
* **Outbound Outreach:** Drive multi-channel outreach (email, cold calls, LinkedIn, social, etc.) to engage and convert leads.
* **Lead Qualification:** Qualify leads using frameworks like BANT/MEDDPICC and gather intel on needs, timing, and decision-making processes.
* **Meeting Scheduling:** Collaborate closely with the CEO to schedule discovery calls and product demos with qualified leads.
* **Sales Funnel Optimization:** Ensure smooth handoffs and clean pipeline hygiene, and help optimize the early sales funnel.
* **Sales Enablement Materials:** Support creation of sales collateral — website updates, one-pagers, case studies, demo assets, nurturing campaigns, and more.
* **Conferences & Events:** Represent Pier at industry conferences, speaker/customer events, and field marketing activations.
* **Start-up Mentality:** Roll up your sleeves and dive into whatever is needed — from sales to campaign ideas to researching competitors.
* **Strategic Planning:** Participate in strategic planning initiatives, working closely with the founder to set goals, develop sales/marketing strategies, and execute plans within the fintech and compliance space.
* Foster a collaborative and cohesive work environment, effectively communicating and collaborating with cross-functional teams
### Qualifications and Experience:
* 2–3 years of relevant experience in sales, business development, or marketing — ideally at a fintech or early-stage startup.
* Self-starter who can operate independently, learn/adapt quickly and thrives in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities.
* Comfortable using tools like Close CRM, Apollo, LinkedIn, and other prospecting tools.
* Clear, persuasive communicator (written and verbal) with strong research and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively communicate and work with internal teams and external business customers.
* Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple conversations and track leads efficiently.
* Creative mindset with the ability to tailor messaging and campaigns for specific segments.
* Interest in fintech, credit and compliance — and the curiosity to learn quickly.
### Bonus Points
* Athlete or competitive background — you thrive on goals, challenges, continuous improvement and don’t easily take No’s.
* Prior experience or strong understanding of fintech compliance — and genuine appreciation for the role it plays in enabling responsible innovation.
* Prior experience selling or working with fintech, lending, compliance-focused teams or products
* Experience building GTM foundations — e.g. building playbooks, writing outreach sequences, or launching campaigns.
### Our Cultures and Values:
* **Customer Obsession:** Obsessed with our customers’ and their end-users’ pain points. Everyone is customer service and customer support. We believe that amazing products stem from deep-rooted understanding of customer pains and building solutions to address them.
* **High velocity:** thrive in high-velocity environments where you learn fast, operate light-speed and execute with a very high bar & with bias towards actions. Be hungry, curious and continue to push the limits. It’s less about where you’re at, more about where you can be & how fast you can get there!
* **Empathy factor:** Empathizing with those around you, whether it’d be customers, partners, teammates or others. Have genuine interests in the lives of others and how what we do can affect everyone around us.
* **Entrepreneurial mindset:** founder-mentality, crave ownership and high accountability. Embrace chaos and be comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity.
* **Transparency:** no BS, no politics. We’re extremely flat, tight-knit. Always embrace clarity, transparency and feedback.
